Scroggins prepares for Southern Cal competition, possible offer

Jesse Scroggins will be one of six quarterbacks competing for a scholarship offer at a Southern California camp Wednesday and Thursday. Whoever wins the competition will get an offer immediately thereafter.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if Scroggins won the competition. He was named top performer following another USC camp.

However, an offer might not guarantee that the Lakewood (Calif.) High star would commit to the Trojans. Scroggins spoke glowingly of his trip to Knoxville last weekend and is also considering Florida. He also seemed a bit dismayed that USC was behind UT and Florida in recruiting him.

Scroggins told the News Sentinel that he’ll make a decision soon but recently told ESPN that he will make his decision by late July at the Elite 11 quarterback camp.

Some of them wind up as water boys. Probably good way to keep talent at home.

Excellent point, however, Simms made a big TV show about comming to the Vols only to change his mind and go to the "other" orange/T school (glad we could help you on your media advertising).

Shaffer left after an "altercation" with someone over his girlfriend, a cell phone and a possible baseball bat (if my memory serves me well, if not, I apoligize, and went on to do nothing at ole miss).

As for Weinart (spelling), excellent point. He got beat out by a guy much older.

Living amongst the suckeye and bungle faithful, no comment on Palmer.....

If its an official visit, the schools pay. If its unofficial then the kids and their family pays their own way. Most all those kids going to camps are there as unofficial visitors to schools, so it is the players paying their way.

Scroggins is the only big time recruit in the nation that has a team in his top three that hasn't even offered him a scholarship yet. Obviously, he must have a great deal of interest in Southern Cal. Frankly, this is starting to get tedious with him and he is holding up other potential commitments that the Vols might otherwise get.

I'm fairly certain we are in his top three, and we have offered him.

He's talking about Southern Cal. They haven't offered him, yet they are in his top three. That statement had nothing to do with UT.

I don't know who else will be at USC, but our next options would be Andrew Hendrix (who is very high on Notre Dame), Munchie Legaux and Chase Rettig (who is currently unranked by Rivals and Scout but has been to several camps and is supposedly the strongest armed quarterback from the state). Also, Nick Lamaison would be a very probable JuCo transfer and would be available to play this year.

This is true, but you have to take into consideration that many of them know they will get a full scholarship to some university so the money spent on travel will be made up for by the fact that these kids will get a free college education. So its probably worth it in their eyes.

The SWARM IN THE SWAMP!

The spectre of reptilian carnage will become burned into his and everyone's minds. And then it will occur to Scroggins: "I want to be part of that swarm. I have witnessed its cataclysmic fury and I long to wear the orange and white! I will be part of the Swarm!!"

He will commit and sign with the Vols and we will go on to have the Number 3 recruiting class next year.

First off of all those areas you listed. Only QB is a true concern. The first team on Off/Def line will be solid, it is the depth on both that will be a concern. There are several receivers that have the talent to be productive in the SEC. Their production will, however, hinge upon the QB. Special Teams will be fine...at least in terms of punt and kick off coverage. The Kicking game may be suspect with a new punter and Lincoln remaining our kicker. I would still expect him to have a better year than last though. I'm cautious about how much this team next year will achieve, I don't see them walking into Florida and winning. However, I do think they could win 9 games if they come together on defense, and we find some QB that can play halfway decently. There is talent on this team, so don't sell them short there.

This camp offer is no big deal. This just says the best player at the camp will get an automatic scholarship offer. Even if he did hurt himself and wasn't able to compete he will still get an offer from USC. So there is no need to wish for this kid to hurt himself. Personally, I want him to win it. If USC thinks so highly of him then that means he is elite QB and the kind of guy we want. I think we have a good shot at him. We provide the best playing opportunity and being close to family. Also, he seems to think highly of us.

D. Mo has talent, Jones has talent, Hancock has a lot of talent he just has to bring it on the field, and there are freshman wrs that will make a difference. Again, qb will dictate how much yardage these guys gain in the year. You can be Randy Moss, but if you have a poor qb you aren't going to put up Mossesque numbers. As for the punt/ kick return teams. Denis Rogan is a very solid return man and there are other guys such as Berry and likely some of the freshman that can make an impact there. The team will also benefit from having a special teams coach for a change.

We're back to a prostyle offense with prostyle recruits...and much better position coaches IMO than last season....can Crompton just manage games and the time of possession? That is the question.

With the talk that Matt Barkley's football I.Q. is practically at a college QB sophomore status....Barkley will probably be the starter from how much he is out performing the other QB's on the roster.

With that being said....Scroggins doesn't want to sit 2nd string (like Matt Cassell) his whole career when he could be starting here. He would probably sit 2 years at Florida too because of Brantley.

Who knows what he will trully do....but the idea of handing the ball off to this "BEAST" whom he seemed to really like on his visit to KnoxVegas might help sway him...check out the McNASTY spin move at 1:32--http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AW2EUb...
