UT's Spurlock advances at Women's Amateur

University of Tennessee rising junior Lauren Spurlock advanced to the second round of the match-play championship flight at the Tennessee Women's Amateur Championship on Wednesday at Memphis Country Club.

Spurlock, the No. 3 seed, defeated 30th-seed Rhonda Nadasdi in round one, 5 and 3. Spurlock will play No. 14 seed Ashley Haggard in the round of 16 today. Haggard will be a freshman at Middle Tennessee State this fall.

UT rising senior Ginny Brown, the No. 6 seed, fell to 27th-seed Paula Bell, 2 and 1, while the 26th-seeded Leigh Henderson, an incoming freshman at UT from Webb School, lost to former Farragut standout and No. 7 seed Alyssa Randolph of the University of Kentucky, 3 and 2.

Defending tournament champion Lorie Warren, the two-time defending Atlantic Sun Player of the Year, and No. 2 seed Brooke Pancake, a rising sophomore at Alabama, both advanced to today's round of 16 with wins.

Kendall Martindale, a rising junior at Jefferson County High School and the No. 5 seed, defeated Karen Williams, 6 and 5.

No. 8 Jessica Tarbet of Corryton defeated No. 25 Sarah Mathews, 6 and 5 and Former Farragut standout Jillian Brodd of Ole Miss, the No. 10 seed, lost to Katie Pursell, 3 and 2.

No. 15 Shayla Forsey of Morristown lost to Shelby Gilbert, 2 and 1.

The quarterfinals and semifinals will be played on Friday. The finals are scheduled for Saturday.
