Defensive tackle Evan Hailes from Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, Va., has committed to Penn State.
The 6-foot-1, 305-pound Hailes chose Penn State ahead of Tennessee and Virginia Tech.
Hailes, whose cousin Rico McCoy is a senior linebacker for the Vols, took an unofficial visit to UT last weekend.
Linebacker Jerod Askew, Hailes' former teammate at Oscar Smith, signed to play at UT in February.

How did this staff let this one get away?
I forget, had we offered him?
Were they working like heck?

It must be because we've already signed so many D lineman. This is a HUGE loss. This guy will be a stud
PrideOfTheSouthlandBand writes:
Look how many dts we already have coming. Elite guys want to be assured of starting for four years. He probably wasn't going to, so he picked a school that needs some replinishing. I would have rather gotten him, but losing him to a non-sec school isn't the worst thing ever. All we need is Jesse to commit and the stars will come.

It sucks that we lost this guy, but it is not a huge blow because we already have quite a few d-line prospects that have committed. CLK and company should focus their efforts on trying to land Scroggins.
DownTheField writes:
Let this settle in his mind for a little while. At the end of the day, if this young man decides he wants to compete at the highest level, against the very best, he will come to Tennessee.
Evan, we want you to come and play for Tennessee. Please don't settle for mediocrity. You will always regret the decision to play in an inferior conference.

We'll be fine in recruiting. The first week in February is a long way off.
When the HS seniors see how our offense lines up this fall and we start to get some victories, the recruits will come.

his home state school lost out on him as well. I wouldn't feel too bad. We'll be fine.

We just need to wish him well and thank him for looking at U.T. WE CAN'T SIGN EVERY PLAYER WE LOOK AT OR ALL THOSE THAT LOOK AT US. I think they got a good player maybe he just felt U.T. was not for him.. Playing for JOPA will not be bad.

Read that he would probably go elsewhere yesterday on the Rocktop Insider report on scout.com - basically it was said that given the guys on defense we already have committed, as far as d-line, the coaches will be very selective on the final couple of spots. (talk about a contrast to the way it has been the last 3-4 years! can't wait til we're in the same boat offensively, having the luxury to be ultra selective!)
GO VOLS!!!

Gatorbait, perhaps so. That doesn't change the point of my post. My point had less to do with Tennessee per se, and more to do with the SEC. Would you like to disagree?
Evan, come and play for Tennessee and you will be a part of something special while proving yourself against the best players in the country on a weekly basis.

Yeah UF is stacked with 5 star recruits? Well ONE so far for 2010 and a whole TWO for 2009! No real impressive. You are however stacked with lots of 3's and 4's and did rank just behind Lane's 2009 class. Pretty good for a coach coming off a NC! Out recruited by a rookie coach and probably will be outcoached by one on Sept 19th!

I would love to see this kid wearing Tennessee Orange, but you are completely whacked saying UT has been doormats the past few years. Tennessee is only one season removed from winning the SEC East.
Yes, two of the last three seasons have not been up to the standards Volunteer fans have come to expect, but we are the winningest program in the program in the history of the SEC and if Bama wins their appeal we will still be No. 2 in conference wins.
The Volunteers are second or third in all-time bowl appearances. It would take a decade of UT not making a bowl game and Florida being in one every year before the Gators could even close the gap.
Every program goes through peaks and valleys. Schools in Florida are no exception as FSU and Miami have gone through recent down cycles. Laugh while you can because the Vols will be back.
You can take that to the bank.

This kid didn't even participate in drills when he was here...isn't that correct? Anyway...it is along time until Nat'l Signing Day...Rico probably told him to commit where his heart told him to go...but a season for this kid to watch how our new defensive system works may change his mind.
Anywho....about zroFaG....he is like a little boy playing with his baby sized ding-a-ling when he is nervous and wanting attention...that's all.

So much for the recruiting prowess of Kiffin and his staff. We can't sign a quarterback - and ran off the guy who was the MVP in the Army bowl - and now we can't sign top notch defensive guys or offensive linemen. I'm not at all impressed by Kiffin's verbage or by his results to this point. At this rate, Kiffin won't make it through year two - when, by the way,he's got to rebuild his entire offensive line. Bad news. Perhaps Al Davis was correct.

Actually that is still debatable. Time will tell once the season starts and the win/loss totals show up. What everyone does know is... 1)Bama is on a losing streak. 2)Bama is in trouble with the NCAA....AGAIN! Those are the the indisputable facts. Sorry 90210.
