FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Fayetteville police arrested Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett on a public intoxication charge early Sunday outside of a nightspot near campus.
The 20-year-old Mallett was booked into the Washington County Jail at 3:47 a.m. after Fayetteville police arrested him on Dickson Street. Mallett was released on bond about an hour later.
Coach Bobby Petrino said Mallett put the program in a bad light and that he would be disciplined.
Mallett is seen as the likely starter for the Razorbacks in 2009. He sat out 2008 after transferring from Michigan.
“I am very disappointed that Ryan Mallett put himself in a situation that doesn’t reflect positively on him or on our program,” Petrino said. “All members of the Razorback football team have a responsibility to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner on and off the field. While the legal process has not yet taken its course in this matter, Ryan will face internal team disciplinary action for not representing the Razorbacks in a way that is required of our student-athletes.”
Spring practice starts March 24.
The 6-foot-7 Mallett, who played in 11 games for the Wolverines last year, has three years of eligibility remaining.
Mallett was 61-of-141 for 892 yards with seven touchdown passes and five interceptions last season at Michigan while filling in for Chad Henne when the senior was injured.
Arkansas had tried to convince the NCAA to allow Mallett to play in 2008, but was turned down.
Mallett went to high school on the Texas side of Texarkana, but lived on the Arkansas side.
Casey Dick went on to start most games for the Razorbacks last season. His brother, Nathan Dick, started the last two games in 2008. He was granted release to transfer from Arkansas after the season, a further indication that Mallett was expected under center for the Razorbacks.

I find it hilarious that Petrino is talking about someone putting a program in bad light. You people in Arkansas are in for a treat in two years when someone else comes calling. Petrino is scum.
hotrodvol writes:
He has potential to be a great player, if he doesn't screw it up. But we've all done stupid stuff at that age. Petrino will put a large shadow on him, it's one thing if it's your punter, something else for it to be a starting QB.

If you weren't stumbling drunk on Cumberland or on fraternity row, you had one BADDD College experience. In my day the cops sent you home if you had not caused trouble or smashed your car....we survived and flourished...Krystal or a S & A deli at 2 am anyone? How about a rooster or a double chili cheese dog at SM Market? Brother Jacks? C'mon it is a college kid not a 40 year old drunk...Time and place..

Maybe not a fat chick, but his wing man is an ex UT punter who shall remain nameless.

I'm afraid I can relate to every single place/food/experience from Cumberland through Brother Jack's and everything in between . . . throw in Uncle Sam's, OCI, the Lap . . . wouldn't trade it, and I just thank God I lived through it.

How soon you forget boys, these stories are commonplace on the hill in the past.
I just hope that Lane takes the proper stance when he has his first and cuts him loose. Too many times we had a story (Coker, O. Smith, Banks, Cobb, Robinson), glass houses my fellow brothers.

I remember waiting hours for my order at Krystal's or craving for a burger from Gus's. Those were the good ole days stumbling along the Strip.

Uh...in 2008 or in 2007? I guess KNS is relieved that this is an AP story with such a goof. Which year is this again?
