Lady Vols improve on swimming times

Senior Maria Jugan, junior Bryttany Curran and sophomore Morgan Farrell had career-best swims Sunday as the Tennessee women's swimming and diving team competed on the final day of the Championship Qualifications "Last Chance" Meet at Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.

Jugan swam the 100-yard backstroke in 58.32 seconds, while Curran had a time of 2:15.72 in the 200 breaststroke, just off the NCAA 'B' cut time of 2:15.53.

Farrell swam a season-best 54.69 in the 100 butterfly, while freshman Tori Richmond tied her season-best in the event at 55.80.

Farrell's time improved the 400 medley relay seed in the NCAA Championships for the Lady Vols.

The Championship Qualifications meet gave athletes a last opportunity to improve season-bests and reach NCAA 'A' or 'B' cuts in hopes of moving up the national lists. The NCAA Championships will be held March 19-21 at College Station, Texas. The official list of participants at the national meet will be released Wednesday.

Other top performances came from sophomore Martina Moravcikova, freshman Abbie Alton and senior Ashley Quinn.

Baseball: Heavy rains in the Conway/Myrtle Beach, S.C., area led to the cancellation of the final day of the Baseball at the Beach Tournament. Tennessee was scheduled to play Florida International at 11 a.m.

UT (1-4) plays host to USC Upstate 4 p.m. Wednesday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
