COLUMBIA, Tenn. — Former University of Tennessee football coach Phillip Fulmer will be grand marshal of the annual Mule Day Parade in Columbia on April 4.
Fulmer grew up in nearby Winchester.
The parade and related activities attract thousands of people every year. The events celebrate the mule and its rich tradition in rural Middle Tennessee.

While I've never been to Mule Day, my father-in-law rarely missed one. I expect Phil will be a top shelf grand marshall.

Nothing wrong with supporting the community that he grew up around. I agreed with the university's decision to move on but show Fulmer some respect.

Yes, fool. Marshal. A marshall is a law official, as is Marshall Dillon. A marshal is a parade dignitary.
ETSU. Enough said.
tenncorncob writes:
rammer, jammer, yellerhammer, go to hell alabammer
Chartervol writes:
Well, viewed from Knoxville, I guess all the towns in Middle Tennessee are close.
Winchester and Columbia share a football history in the old Central Tennessee Conference. Fulmer played in Columbia a long time ago.
I remember the football bus trip from Columbia to Winchester was a bee-atch.

they couldn't have found a bigger azz:)))
VAvolfanRON writes:
kiff..etc....you guys have as a much class as a rock....
grow up
Chartervol writes:
The biggest problem with Mule Day is the local Christers run the thing and won't let anyone have a good time.
The other problem is the local chamber of commerce tries to claim there are 200,000 people here. That's two home games at Neyland Stadium. You put that many people in Columbia, and we'd still be gridlocked come Christmas.
VAvolfanRON writes:
semi vol fans...are worse than gator fans!!!
Down_The_Field writes:
dang, i was hoping to win this honor.
ETSU_Vol writes:
oh thank you, how long did it take you to look that up? you moron marshal was spelled wrong in the title of the article and they have since changed it from when i first posted that. so make sure you know what your talking about before you run your gummed flaps

Maybe Phillip Fulmer plans to enter politics. Most politicans go to MULE DAY. Find a crowd and there will be a politician nearby. Probably be lots of gubernatorial candidates at MULE DAY along with the regular goobers. By the way, I have a BigOrangeBrain.

Frankling Co.- Columbia was a firece rivalry game. So was Murfreesboro, espcially when it was Murfreesboro Central.
I'm trying to remember the CTC...
Lawrenceburg
Franklin Co.
Columbia
Murfreesboro Central (later Reverdale and Oakland)
Manchester
Shelbyville
Dickson County????
Can anyone finish this out??
utclassof1992 writes:
Wasnt Lincoln Co. a part of this? And Tullahoma?
MidTennVol writes:
I'm from Columbia and grew up participating in many Mule Days. It wasn't that long ago that the laws were changed and you could finally get liquor by the drink in Columbia.
If you believe "having a good time" means getting plastered drunk in public, or DWI, or using drugs, then you're right. Columbia is the only town in the US that has laws against that kind of thing.
And all the laws were written by "Christers," of course.
Some other city ordinances you should be aware of:
No mixed (co-ed) swimming. No mini-skirts or halter-tops or short shirts showing bare midriffs. No music after 8 PM, period.
And absolutely no smiling on Sundays.
Don't come if you can't live with these rules.
(BTW, I once won the Mule Day Liars' Contest.)

FITTING! He should (or might) be able to actually handle that role!
ETSU_Vol writes:
I really appreciate it k.w.o. Some people just come on here with the intent of starting stuff. Whether it's with fellow vols fans or not. I was just pointing out an error & he feels the need to boost his self esteem & try to bash me out of nowhere without knowing what's going on

Yeah, this is too easy! Hope you have a good time at Mule Day, Phil. My one visit to that festival was fun. (TIP: Don't clap your hands in a mule's ear)
