Stallworth 'grief stricken' over fatal accident

MIAMI — Cleveland Browns receiver Donte Stallworth says he is "grief stricken" over his car accident that killed a pedestrian on a busy causeway linking Miami and Miami Beach.

The former University of Tennessee standout says in a statement released by the team Wednesday that his "thoughts and prayers are with" the family of Mario Reyes. Police say Stallworth was headed toward the beach when he hit the 59-year-old Reyes with his Bentley on Saturday morning. Reyes was near a crosswalk but it’s unclear if he was crossing legally.

Stallworth said he could not comment further because the accident is under investigation. He was cooperating with police and no charges have been filed.

Police are awaiting a routine toxicology report expected late this week before releasing more details.

Very sad. I will keep everyone involved in my prayers. I hope that the toxicology report doesn't come back positive for any drugs or alcohol.

Yes, welove...? I was pointing out the misspelling of Donte's name in the title. His name is Stallworth...no "o" in the middle.

You are simply a sick individual.

FWBVol writes:

I hope UT fans and non Vol fans alike will give Donte the same consideration in this tragic event they would if one of their family members had been the driver.

Yes, it is sad that other former Vols have been guilty of killing people while driving, but that doesn't make Stallworth guilty.

Rather than replying to these insults, I suggest hitting the Suggest removal button.

Grow up Loser. Those three guys were GREAT UT players. Everyone makes mistakes. Get a life inbred.

Come on folks, ease up on our own until the facts are known.
Best wishes to Dante as well as the family of the deceased.

How sad. I can't imagine how he must feel. My thoughts and prayers go out to all parties involved.

He'll be acquitted I hope. Sorry for the family and what he is going through but Donte isn't known to be in the news for anything negative.

I also meant to imply that hiresanders is NOT a member of the human race; nor his parents, nor his offspring.

you are a sick man

VAvolfanRON writes:

"Reyes was near a crosswalk but it’s unclear if he was crossing legally."

Every one of us have played a careless game of chicken in a busy intersection. I don't know if Mr. Reyes was crossing legally or not as is stated in the above quote from the story.

It is sad that a man lost his life, and Donte Stallworth will have to carry this tragic event around with him the rest of his life even if he is found innocent.

But in DC's mind....stallworth is guilty!!!....that is sad also....not as sad a person lost his life.....but, he can't see that....

i guess he's trying to make clear the 22 crimimals on his team....it make's it seem easier on him

VAvolfanRON writes:

lets just pray for Reyes....rest his soul.....he's at a just as good place...in god's hands

VAvolfanRON writes:

do you not understand what your statement said?...are you so FLA blind?......this is what you said!!

"How about with the innocent victim's family?"

you automatically assume stallworth is guilty.......and he may be...but why do you automatically assume?....truley a fla, jerk....

DC...do you understand the difference???....
