Kiffin, Davis meet again

Tennessee head football coach Lane Kiffin and his former boss, Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis, had a chance meeting Tuesday in Oakland, Calif., where Kiffin was on hand to give his deposition in his case seeking payment of $2.6 million in salary he says the Raiders owe him under contract. Davis contends Kiffin breached the contract and is owed nothing.

hahahaha, god you guys crack me up. Who does Kiffin think he is. At first everyone was on kiffs side, but now after all he has said its the other way around. You have everyone take Al Davis's side. Man thats hard to do.

Kiffin has no shot at winning this lawsuit or whatever it is. Davis has won these things against, gruden, shannahan, city of Oakland, city of LA, and a lawsuit again the NFL. So what does this snot nosed punk think he can do that the NFL couldnt do.

The NFL has been on Davis for years going back to the days of "Raider football" from the AFL days forward. Most of you guys are too young to remember the days of the AFL on NBC with Curt Gowdy, from back in the early 60's.

The Raiders were notorius for utilizing what is today illegal: a)head shots and clotheslines with the forearm to defenseless receivers across the middle; b)head slaps to linemen and quarterbacks c)chop blocks to linemen when engaged with another player...intended to hurt the opposing lineman's knees.

Some might argue that it is no sin to play the game within the rules as they existed at the time, and that is to be applauded. I consider it unethical to injure someone permanently in order to win a game. Davis's aggressive tactics resulting in permanent injury helped foster the environment create the player's union to provide for disabled players.

Davis has earned himself scores of enemies through the decades. It's tough not to walk into a hearing and win when you have already have baggage. I believe the abritrator is probably unbiased yet, he is human. It's tough to be unbiased at all.

The NFL sued him during the moves from Oakland to LA and back. Long term negative animus is hard to overcome. Kiff's claims have more cred because it is against Davis himself.

And let's not forget Kiff's attitude...he will not quit. He will keep on competing. On the field and off.

Ya they layed some people out. Not the only team to play like that though.

You keep proving you know nothing about the situation. First of all how is it a cover up if we self reported it.

It is not a big deal unless you are a sports writer. If they wanted to know, they could have found out. We didnt hide anything, we suspended players for four games and self reported this. The NCAA reinstated the players for the bowl game. Some sports writers are made they Alabama didnt say anything. Give me a break...Nothing was official yet, why say it...

Neither you nor I know what he actually thought when he called out Urban. In Pee Wee's case he did mean to do it, and pretending the fall made him more effective to play off it.

Assuming for argument you are right, that Kiff was caught with his foot in his mouth, it's brilliant of him to roll with the subjective puzzle created by it. You will never know will you? It drives outsiders like you nuts and we are having a ball with your frustration!

All that you do know for sure is that his critics (to date) have been exasperated and outwitted; recruits have been charmed; the team is enthusiastic; and the fan base is very seriously fired up!

Looks like things are going very well indeed.

Sorry but that does not pertain to this case. We self reported in and it was common knowledge that we suspended those players and they were reinstated by the NCAA. We arent going to put it in the front page but I guarantee there was no foul play. You are just fishing for something. Keep digging...

You are an idiot Sabenated987! Kiffin has no shot losing the lawsuit. He was fired he had a contract the contract stipulates he get paid. Their is mountains of case law that backs up Kiffin. I could defend him and win this suit. Its really just a matter of how much he gets.

The reason why Al is slandering him any chance he can is in the hopes that Kiffin would drop the suit.

The other big reason Kiffin will win is the coaches association is looking closely at how the NFL conducts itself in this situation. If Al somehow prevailed then every coach in the NFL would be holding a contract that had no value.

If you comeback to suggest just cause, their is nothing that Kiffin did to suggest he didn't do his best. His team was competitive every week but one. He played to win every week and he had no choice as to who he played or who was on the team. Even if he gave the Raider playbook to the the Raider opponents after he was fired, Al would have no case since he was no longer an employee.

Old Al is not only going to lose he is going to lose big.

The allegations were the textbook issues began in 2005 and 2006 BUT CONTINUED into the fall of 2007, when Saban was there. Most importantly there were no institutional controls in place as safeguards.

The suppression followed.
