Stallworth's attorney denies reports player was driving drunk

MIAMI — Authorities have yet to release blood tests for Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte Stallworth, who authorities say fatally struck a pedestrian in Miami Beach a week ago.

Meanwhile, his attorney is denying media reports that the tests show the former University of Tennessee standout was driving drunk.

Christopher Lyons said Saturday that neither police nor the state attorney’s office have released the results of toxicology tests. They have not said specifically when they will be released.

The Miami Herald and local TV news, citing unnamed people, have reported that Stallworth’s blood-alcohol level was above Florida’s legal limit.

A Miami Beach police spokesman didn’t return an e-mail or phone message from The Associated Press on Saturday.

Stallworth hasn’t been charged.

I think he is better than Nick Montana. I think they'll try to get tow or three qb's. Should be interesting.

Until we stop recruiting punks, probably more to come. I just hope Bruce Pearl is paying attention.

Actually, I don't ever recall a UT player killing someone while driving drunk. I remember a Dallas Cowboy that did and a St. Louis Ram that did. Surely you aren't holding the University responsible for what these professionals do 6 years into a pro career are you? Please provide the name of the UT player that has killed someone while driving drunk. If they didn't do it while at UT, we aren't responsible and shouldn't be tabbed with it. They were good students and people while here, it is the organization they are now under that has to deal with this mess.

Cleveland Browns,St louis Rams and of course the Dallas Cowboys!! None of these guys were ever in trouble while at UT. Might as well blame their 3rd grade teacher!!! And not sure Donte was Drunk, but leave it to these loser reporters @ KNS to jump the gun to smear!

GahLee writes:

They were former players of ours....guys you have to face it...Travis Henry, goes without saying the mess he has got himself into...Jamal Lewis, dealing cocaine...Dewayne Goodrich, convicted of vehicular manslaughter, he was drunk...Leonard Little, Killed 2 people after getting drunk on his birthday. Now we have Donte Stallworth, we don't know for sure if he was intoxicated at the time or not but either way he killed a man. I know these incidents were done after their time here at UT but they still played here and either way I think that it looks bad on us. Like I said I hope that he wasn't drunk, especially at 7 in the morning.

I'm sure you guys have heard that saying before, you just have to wonder what these guys are thinking, they had life on easy street if they just kept their nose clean.

Sad story all around.

Dwayne Goodrich was not drunk. There is nothing that says he was. He was recklessly driving 100+ mph when his accident happened. He is guilty of acting stupid but not DUI. Before we curcifi him lets get the story straight. What happened was a terrible accident that he seems to be truely sorry about.

Driveing drunk or driveing in excess of 100 miles an hour and killing someone is really no different. The victims are still no longer here to love or be loved.People that do stupid things like that can say they are sorry and apologize all they want, but the fact remains, they broke the law and must pay the price.Dead, is dead ,anyway you pronounce it.Everyone of us will exceed the posted speed at times, but 100 miles an hour is not accidental.Goodrich got off way too easy.

Yes these players aren't here anymore but they're still a representation of the University. Plus, when you had someone, cough cough Colquitt, get his 5th DUI last year it doesn't look good. Oh and does anybody remember that punk Lee Smith getting kicked off the team before he even go to school for drunk driving & causing an accident. These players don't get it. You can't do stuff like this regardless of whether or not you're a millionaire athlete. If he did do it Stallworth should get life without parole b/c that is idiotic & very irresponsible & I don't want someone like that on the road when I'm driving around town.

TrueVolFan, that was of the most poignant and accurate posts. You hit it on the head. It's an unfortunate situation, but it's a grown man on his own. It matters not where he went to school. I mean can you hear the media now "Mr. Jones, a former employee of 'blank-blank' was involved in an accident where a pedestrian was injured."

Colquit did not have his 5th DUI last year. He had his 5th "incident" with alcohol, 2 of which were DUI's(not that 2 dui's are ok, but not 5) He had been at parties as a college kid where alcohol was being consumed and he was a minor at a couple of those. The point is not that Colquit was innocent, it is that you are way off with your comments about him as if they were fact. If your going to slam someone, get your facts straight before hand or else you're just left looking ignorant.

Who's to say that the guy Stallworth killed didn't just walk right into traffic. In Miami anything happens. I've seen it before down there. Any way you look at it - it is sad and 2 lives are changed forever. I hope the toxicology comes back negative.

alfrizzle097 writes:

The sad thing is that this is more about how much money he was going to make, the impact on the Browns, and how it reflects on the University of Tennessee than it is about how a man lost his life.

Drunk or not, the focus should be on the family of the victim and the victim himself.

Get real people. Do we go back and accuse parents of ax murders, serial killers, serial rapists, when they are grown and gone from a home where no indication of future behavior was indicated. "My son was raised by us or we to respect others" so often cited when terrible things make the news. Yes, sometme I'm sure there may have been times when good people lose conrol of kids, but years after being raised in a proper manner it's hard to fault people after they leave your care. All must take responsibility for themselves. In these cases, leave our school out of it. It doesn't apply.
