The football team by a long shot (although...I will have to admit....I was one of the Fulmer supporters)

Hopefully 2008's pigskin season can become one of those memories that fades away.
Hoy many doldrum days, GerryOp?

What a one year turnaround. From SEC east champs in football, to SEC regular season champs which featured an (all too brief) #1 ranking in men's basketball, and an 8th National Title in women's basketball to... this past school year of sports.
Oddly enough the men's bb team had the most success tieing for the the East crown and making it to the SEC tourny final.
Here's looking to 09-10 seasons.
davolsrdabomb#1366482 writes:
Th Mens Basketball Team was Preseason Top Ten ranked in the Nation. The SEC was very weak this year and the Vols should have done better ! Lost to very mediocre teams at home and threw away the SEC Tourney title against a bad MSU team !! By far Mens hoops were the BIGGEST dissapointment !
DennisVols writes:
As much as the football team was a big flop. I would think our expectations of the Lady Vols made their opening loss in the NCAA Tour. as big a let down. The mens team was quite dissapointing.
Let look forward to better years for all.

The KNS. There is always a hi expectation for UT teams to win weather it be football, basketball, the lady vols, or what ever. But Got to remember there collage athletes, there not paid for what they do, but for love of the game or love of the school. But KNS personal are paid to do there jobs, with i thought was wright about UT sports. But some times you people act like spies that would rahter stir the pot with dumb polls like this one. Think about it.

Rest assured some will keep bringing it up. Salt in the wound stuff.

Doesn't look like our baseball team is going to fair much better. Mike - Is your seat getting a little hot? 09-10 should save your job.

First of all you are certainly entitled to your opinion as is everyone. But just because one disagrees with another does not warrant one to call another a fool. That is an extremely childish behavior. A coaches job is to recruit players to fit his system on a yearly basis. If these players do not fit Pearls system then he is the one to blame. The Lady Vols had no high expectations going into this season and the other SEC schools are very strong this year. The football team "quit" on Phillip Fulmer half way through the year and as far as the season being a dissapointment it brought in a new coach. In all honesty the football teams mediocre season was a success because it did bring in Lane Kiffin... The Mens basketball team by far under achieved moreso than the others. Memphis lost (3) starters to the NBA and are in the final sixteen. Kansas lost (4) starters off their National Championship team and are in the final sixteen.
Losing players is not an excuse. Plus the Vols had alot of talent returning.Plus the SEC was HORRIBLE and ripe for UT's taking ! This is my opinion sir. You are welcome to yours. I am NOT a FOOL. That is a fact !

Football. Seems like a no-brainer to me.
davolsrdabomb#1366482 writes:
They were ALL dissapointing. Guees Men's hoops sticks out cause within just a couple of weeks they lose to Bama at home in the reg season finale. Lose to a bad MSU team and throw away the SEC tourney title. Those two things alone hurt the NCAA seeding. Then the ONE AND DONE in the NCAA !!!! The team should have done better this year !
davolsrdabomb#1366482 writes:
You have valid and knowledgable points... The seaon is over.. Take care..Better NEXT year !!!

Speaking only for myself, ol' Teej doesn't care about Memphis State basketball and is tired of reading about it on here.
Ironcity writes:
David, the reality is the Mens basketball team wasn't that good. Interesting David you give Pat a free pass when she has had a top 3 recruiting class every year for the last decade when her team totally flops and gives up on her. Yet you seem to think coach Pearl should have seen that our point guard would get tossed off the team. 4 games were lost in the last 10 seconds because we are the only team in the country that has to have a a 6ft 8in power forward bringing the ball up the court at the end of the game.
All the teams disappointed simply because I am always disappointed when they don't win however the football team truly underachieved because the coaches indicated that thought we were going to have a great season.

Butch...where are you? Still want to argue that this isn't the worst period in UT sports history?

Yeah, its not like the Lady Vols just won a indoor track NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP or anything.... oh wait

I'm just saying, its not like UT has fallen off a cliff or anything, we are still there in other sports... Yes basketball and football has been a disappointment but every school has down years in some sports.
Vol_Jokes writes:
Here is a good indicator of how things are with the UT sports programs these days. The poll is for which team was the most disappointing. Not for which team was the most impressive this season or had the biggest accomplishments etc... but... which one was the most disappointing.
Tigers thurs. night 2nd game following the UConn game at 6:07 cst. They are currently the only team to make the sweet 16 the last 4 years. If they win this game they will have been in the elite 8 four straight years.
Have seen a good many comments saying that if the vols were in cusa they would be undefeated. Give me a break. I'm not sure they'd be undefeated in any conference this season. Also how would they be undefeated with Memphis playing in the cusa?
TommyJack writes:
UTFan4: Didn't see the harm myself. But, fyi, they don't just automatically remove when requested. Someone at KNS has to agree with the objector.

UTandETSUfan writes:
True, the men's team had high expectations, but remember we lost our top 4 guards and our #2 PF/C from last season. I know this recruiting class was great, but its impossible to replace Lofton, J. Smith, and Howell along w/ R. Smith and Crews.
QDog writes:
No SEC schools left in the tournament 1 CUSA team Memphis!!! UT BBall team could not have gone undefeated in a league by itself this yr.
UTandETSUfan writes:
Poor Memphis, they are going to get beat in football this fall by John Crompton. LOL!

OK - a little harsh, but, damn, check your #$%^ and stop bringing UT down.

that they were among the best 3 pt shooters in the nation is tenn perception and nowhere near fact---even lofton was not in the top 50 am I'm thinking much lower than that---I'm thinking he was around 37% of so------anything less than 40% is nothing special and nowhere close to being among the best--------still much better than what we had this year and they would have helped
GerryOP writes:
Why are you bringing this up here? Certainly sounds "... off topic ..." to me.
UTandETSUfan writes:
Lofton was 10th (amount made) and Smith was 56th. Lofton shot 39.8% with Smith sinking 38.4% (both out of the top 50 percentage wise, but most of the top 50 shot many many fewer shots)

of course i would never disagree with that--that you are right on with-----since we cant make them we should stop relying on them cause all they make for are wasted possessions--i support BP but got to hold him responsible for stayin with what dont work too often---33 jacks is rediculous--have seen noone in this entire tourney with less semblance of a designed offense than us
yabadabadoo1026 writes:
hey, I appreciated both of them and their shooting would have helped us a lot----and I was talking without stats in front of me so thanks for yours--seemes better than what I remembered-- no doubt 38-40% is considerably better than what anyone else brought this year
smokyredbone writes:
The most disappointing team has to be the sports staff at KNS!! Another completely ignorant poll meant to incite and aggravate! The Lady Vols are extremely young, but every kid on that team was a high school All American and will pay back all debts over the next few years. The mens team had 6 new players and lost point guard West, before season. They still made the dance (4 years in a row/shared the east and got to the Championship game in SEC tourney) do you boys remember what it was like before coach Pearl? Football team sucked and coaches got fired! They need to clean up the trash on this site (trolls, trolls, trolls) and write something meaningful! KNS acts as if they hate the VOLS,whats up with that! I'm in Nashville and the local press reports honestly, but treats Vandy respectfully and write many positive articles about them! GO VOLS BEAT THE GatorS AND BAMMERS!!!!!!
invisiblekid writes:
We'll find out soon enough.
UTandETSUfan writes:
I appreciated them too (and wished we had them back! LOL), yeah last year they both did pretty well (although a down year for Lofton after 2 years of 41.9%+). Our best 2 this year though are Hopson (.357) and Tabb (.424 but only made 14 out of 33). A BIG drop off from last year.
invisiblekid writes:
FWIW, I don't think the men's basketball team belongs on here. A little better execution down the stretch in their last two games and they are SEC tourney champions and facing Pitt in a second round game which is about what most would have expected.
The football team followed up an SEC title game with one of the worst seasons in the past 30 years. Four straight games scoring less than 10 points. Ugly.
yabadabadoo1026 writes:
your CUSA comment was innocent enough and not picking on you cause its the same lame argument most here cling to.
Yes, if we were in CUSA our record would be better but we would still be the same team that loses to OK-state and maybe by more cause we had played lesser competition to get the better record.
If Memphis played SEC their record wouldnt be as good but still they would be the same team that beat Maryland and likely by more because of the better competion played during the year.
Record alone is a illogical way to assess how good a team is because of level of competion--thats why RPI and SOS factor in to account for league strength
The CUSA argument is totally lame--Memphis gets it done in the tourney against strong competition and noone here wants to acknowlege those facts and give them credit
Until they do it stands to reason the interlopers will always be here reminding the haters
yabadabadoo1026 writes:
well i certainly noticed that Tabb was our best 3 shooter and I'd bet hardly anyone would have suspected that. The highest % maker needs to be the guy shooting them----I've always thought Tabb had some skills offensively- he can shoot a 3 and he can take it to the hole--he just needs to cut down on turnovers and boneheaded alley-opp type stuff
Moaninglikeheck writes:
Hmmm, lets see. Ainge graduates, Mayo graduates, lost Coker due to issues, Cutcliffe and half of offensive staff move to other jobs, new OC with new assistants, and '08 wasn't a rebuilding year for the football team?
No doubt, 5-7 was unexpected and a horrible disappointment...but I think we set ourselves up for that disappointment by not recognizing the issues that were certain to arise.
Still, I have to agree that the football team was the biggest letdown.
GahLee writes:
You!!!!!!!!! What do you know? Just kidding, all were pretty disappointing.
