Tennessee set a school record in the 200-yard medley relay to finish sixth at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in College Station, Texas, on Friday.
Auburn was first with an NCAA record time of 1 minute, 22.36 second. Ricky Henahan, Barry Murphy, Mike DeRocco and Nolan Morrell shaved one-hundredth of a second off the previous best for 1:24.74.
UT set three school records on Thursday
Texas won the 800 freestyle relay and set an NCAA record (6:10.16) while UT's Morrell, Jonas Persson, Michael Christy and Geoff Sanders swam the third fastest in UT history and finished seventh in 6:21:33.
Texas is in first entering the final day with 348 points. Auburn is second with 342 and UT is eighth with 119.
Also for UT: Christy placed 18th (3:46.49) in the prelims of the 400 individual medley; DeRocco was 37th (47.54) in the 100 butterfly; Persson was 16th (1:36.21) in the 200 free while Sanders was disqualified during the preliminary round after a false start; Murphy was 14th (53.21) and Brad Craig was 22nd (53.73) in the 100 breaststroke; Henehan and Morrell placed 22nd (47.14) and 24th (47.44), respectively in the preliminary round of the 100 backstroke.
Purdue's David Boudia claimed (493.10) the three-meter diving championship while UT's Ryan Helms was 12th (388.65) and Brent Sterling 33rd (280.95).
Men's Tennis: Fifth-ranked Tennessee (15-3, 4-1 SEC) needed three sets to win a pair of singles matches but still routed Arkansas, 6-1, at the Goodfriend Indoor Tennis Center.
Matteo Fago clinched the victory for the Vols with one of those three-set victories, beating Matthew Hogan 6-4, 1-6, 7-5. Fago, 15-0 in dual-match play, was down 4-1 in the third set before breaking Hogan's serve and taking control.
UT's Boris Conkic also needed three sets to beat Chris Nott, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
The Vols swept the doubles matches against Arkansas (9-8, 1-4). John-Patrick Smith, Matt Brewer and Christian Hansen had the other singles victories.
Women's Tennis: Despite Jennifer Meredith's ninth consecutive singles victory, No. 13 Tennessee (10-4, 3-2 SEC) lost at No. 23 Arkansas, 4-3. Meredith, who beat Emily Carbone at No. 4 singles, 6-1-6-1, became the first Lady Vol with 20 victories this season.
The outcome came down to three-set singles match that was won by the Razorbacks (9-4, 4-1).
At No. 2 singles, Arkansas' Anouk Tigu won four of the last five points to overcome Tennessee's Natalie Pluskota, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.
Softball: The No. 9 Lady Vols (25-6, 3-3 SEC) take to the field at Lee Stadium 1 p.m. today for a doubleheader against Mississippi State (15-15, 0-9).
Fans who bring two non-perishable food items to benefit Second Harvest will be admitted free. Prior to the first game, UT co-head coach Ralph Weekly will be honored in a special presentation for his 900th career victory.
Rowing: Tennessee and Alabama will meet for the first today on Lake Loudoun. The races begin at 9:30 a.m.
