ATHENS, Ga. — Austin Long, an offensive lineman considered one of the top members of Georgia’s recruiting class, has undergone back surgery, and coach Mark Richt says he plans to redshirt Long for the 2009 season, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
The 6-foot-5, 268-pound Long attends Briarcrest Christian High in Memphis. The newspaper said he underwent surgery in Memphis on Monday.
Richt says Long could be practicing by the end of the season and be ready for next spring.

Wow.....hate to hear things like this....I hope he takes it easy and doesn't rush his rehab...
But, then again...he's young.....you can heal easier..

I maybe missing something but it does not seem like a wise thing to recruite a guy and not get to use him untill 2010.

Hopefully he will be okay. Randy Hall from Halls who was the number 1 offensive lineman in the country had back surgery early in his career and never played a down and took a medical. Hopefully he will be good as new and can represent the state of Tennessee with flying colors. He has a little brother who will be a Jr. at Briarcrest who is supposed to be a top notch prospect. Keep an eye on him. He is a little thicker than his big brother and is already getting D-1 attention.

Represent the state of Tennessee? By playing for Georgia?

Some folks care, because UT plays UGA every year.
I wish him well, except that when he lines up against UT, I want him to give up 6 sacks per game.

Best wishes to the kid. I hope it's not too serious and that he's okay.
