Ah yes, always good to report off indications before the official word is out. Indications are always right, after all!

IMO, I think you're in the minority there. Lots of fans of SEC schools care who's going to coach basketball at UK, especially since it's probably going to be Cal.
bugman (Inactive) writes:
so this means we get to beat him two times a year. excellent
andy112382#209793 writes:
I'll have to agree with you there. Granted the odds of him going are pretty high, there is no done deal and if you know anything about sports, it should be that it isn't final until the press conference is over, and even then (see Billy Donovan) it isn't a sure thing! But at least wait for the man himself to say it publicly.
OrangeMan_86 writes:
Sweet. Can't wait for Pearl to beat him twice a year ;)
Healeystyle writes:
They just reported that he's coming on the radio, Fox Sports, that is. Should be fun to have the scum bag around all year. My bet is that he uses KFC to hide his "recruiting expenses" instead of FedEx. It's only gonna get worse UK fans.
BSweet writes:
I think the point was they're not telling us anything new. They're not scooping anyone, they're just filling space. This isn't news, it's we still don't know.
utfan15govols writes:
If you really want to get a good laugh, go to a UK forum and see the post talking about Coach Cal coming to UK. They already have who is transferring from Memphis and who is booted off the team at Kentucky. Geez, looks like a bunch of 5th graders posting.
All i can say about this deal is, If Coach Cal does do some "questionable" recruiting, it would magnify greatly at UK. I feel a Eddie Sutton deal going on, remember when his staff sent money to Chris Mills using FedEx i believe and they got busted!
Raynoch writes:
Usually fans of a certain team like to keep up with their conference rivals.
VolJunkie writes:
We know you really come here to read abouth the specials at The Mouse's Ear ;)
Regardless of what you think of him, Calipari can recruit. If he brings some of the UM recruiting class with him and Meeks and Patterson hang around it makes the SEC even tougher to win next year. JMO.
VolJunkie writes:
Not so sure about that. Granted, it is a high pressure job with high expectations, but if this is your chosen profession, the coaching jobs at Duke, UNC, Kansas, UCLA, and Kentucky are as good as it gets.

The SEC East makeover:
Tennessee - Pearl
Kentucky - Calipari(probably)
Florida - Donovan
USC - Horn
Vandy - Stallings
Georgia - Anderson(offered)
Tough neighborhood.

Vitale is so full of it and I rarely consider anything that nasal hand talker has to say. If there is still a story here it's why Cal is having second thoughts. It sure can't be the money, or the national exposure. Maybe it's his legacy? Perhaps Cal is worried about not living up to the expectations that will be demanded of him. Afterall, his collegiate success (which has been considerable) has been coaching in inferior conferences. I also remind you he coached 3 years in the pros and finished with a losing record and left before he was fired to return back to college coaching. But I don't see how he walks away from the money.
Raynoch writes:
I don't see Anderson leaving Mizzou. That's a much better job than UGA. Fans actually care about bball in Columbia.
Moaninglikeheck writes:
You should go back to this site around December 1, 08. UT/UK football timeframe. Except instead of buzz about recruit transfers, it was about a certain Tampa Bay DC and his golden boy son.
We are just as bad if not worse.
murrayvol writes:
Whitlock pretty much nailed it....he usually does. NCAA desperately needs a makeover but it'll take a Cat 5 dungstorm before it happens.
Timed_vol (Inactive) writes:
You know what?? Other than when playing UT, I would pull for UK in games when Tubby was coaching, same with Pitino. I like the players, liked the game.
I didn't care much for Billy G, and don't like Calipari at all. It will be hard for me to pull for them with that dude. I know some of you have a massive 'hate' thing going on, but I've never much been that way with SEC schools. We've had exciting teams in the NCAA's: Uk of course, UF, LSU, Bama, us, Miss State, Vandy, Arkansas...it makes our conference look good when we compete well.
Ah, I know most don't care, but to me it'll be a shame to have that guy up there.
halloffamebowler writes:
It was not news when this same thing was going on with the hire of Bruce pearl, but you guys loved every word about that.I,for one, want to read all I can about all of the SEC schools. What happens to the other SEC schools also has an effect on Tennessee.
oldvolsfan writes:
then you would have nothing to talk about

helicopter flying over cals house for two hours, no official word from memphis yet, crazy circus down here.....4:39pm in lexington.....the longer it goes ??????
AirForceVol writes:
I don't think the two emotions are mutually exclusive. You can hate Kentucky and still pull for them as an SEC representative in the NCAA tourney. I think Cal is a perfect fit for true Tennessee/SEC fans. He's a jerk and will be easy to pull against and he's a heck of a coach that will make the conference better. Hope he takes the job!
givehim6 writes:
Well may opionan is if coach Cal does come to UK just means UT has to see and hear about caoch Cal more than once a year. Although if he does come to the SECthere will be more of a natinal and medea respest for the SEC.
Colliervol writes:
As of 5 minutes ago, it is reported that Calipari still is trying to decide. Maybe everybody will hear something by Memorial Day. Doesn't really matter to me one way or the other. I can dislike him at Memphis or I can dislike him at UK.
dvols writes:
cals car just left his house? ky charter plane has left fla to come pick him up??
regardless: ky basketball used to have players that wanted to play for ky "my ole ky home" , do you think dereck rose, tyreke evens, etcc give a rats patoot about hangin banners in the forum?
and now players are wanting to play for a coach? not the school? im just sayin
go vols...

No knock on your comment Murray, but living in Kansas City (rather than my hills of Tennessee)...reading Whitlock daily is really rough...Usually 3 days after his article, he's having to say he blew it..happens quite often...especially his articles on Chiefs players/team..
Raynoch writes:
Probably because most UT fans consider Memphis and Kentucky our #1 and #2 rivals in bball (Vandy is in there somewhere). Pearl and Calipari have had plenty of verbal sparring. And besides spring ball, absolutely nothing else is going on regionally.
jhayes0926#638474 writes:
Memphis talk shows are reporting UM has an offer on the table for Anderson at little over 2 mil.
Missouri has offered 1.5
I think Ga. is his second choice to Memphis. Will know tomorrow.
Cal. has flown on the charter to Lexington.
Timed_vol (Inactive) writes:
catscratch, are you serious?? It's no big drive to go from UT to UK, u-no??
Seriously tho, the UK rivalry is long-standing for UT fans. VU fans most likely feel the same about you. Bruve Pearl has done a great job genning up the UMem game, so, there you go.
Hope you get what you want, good luck to you.
weisgarber2003#313889 writes:
Cal had better make sure he has all the contractual details signed and sealed, with no Gillespie "Memorandum of Understanding," The "Mild Cats" are going to fleece B.G. on that MOI.
