Rain stalls Lady Vols in third

Tennessee's Friday night softball game against No. 3-ranked Alabama will resume at 1 o'clock today at Lee Stadium with the Lady Vols holding a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning.

The threat of severe weather forced the postponement after UT starter Cat Hosfield walked the Tide's No. 9 hitter, Kellie Eubanks, amid pouring rain with no outs.

The teams will play a doubleheader today.

The 15th-ranked Lady Vols (37-13-1, 12-10-1 SEC) opened a 2-0 lead in the first before a crowd of more than 1,000.

Kelly Grieve singled and stole second, Tiffany Huff walked, and Alabama catcher Ashley Holcombe sailed her pickoff attempt at second into center field, allowing both runs to score.

UT has won four of its past five meetings in Knoxville against Alabama (43-8, 19-6).
