The victim of a sexual assault involving a Tennessee signee urged the university to admit him.
In a letter dated Feb. 4, 2009 and obtained by the News Sentinel on Wednesday, the victim wrote that she would support Catholic High School star Daniel Hood, to whom she is related, in his quest to attend college and play football.
Hood, a 6-foot-5, 255-pound lineman and tight end, signed a scholarship with UT on Tuesday.
“I know... Daniel on a personal level and believe that he has been very remorseful towards me,” the letter reads in part. “He is a very caring individual. We are now working on rebuilding our relationship. Hoping to become a family like before. He is becoming a very mature adult and will be a great asset to any college and to society as a whole.”
The incident happened in 2003, and Hood was placed in Department of Children’s Services custody until his 17th birthday.
A 17-year-old also involved in the incident is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence.
