COLUMBIA, S.C. — A South Carolina baseball player has been arrested for public drunkenness and resisting arrest after police said he used his hands to hit a police car.
Twenty-one-year-old Gamecocks infielder Casey Matthew Rihn was arrested around 2 a.m. Sunday.
Columbia police spokesman Brick Lewis said Rihn was walking when he hit the back of the marked patrol car, then continued to strike it after officers stopped and told him he was under arrest. Lewis says Rihn tried to pull away from officers and was placed face-down on the ground after he continued to struggle.
Rihn was released from jail Sunday evening on a personal recognizance bond. A telephone number for Rihn couldn’t be found. A school spokesman says coach Ray Tanner is aware of the situation but would not talk about it.
