UT, Vandy say football ticket sales down only slightly

The poor economy has area college football teams wondering, not whether season-ticket sales will be down for the coming season, but by how much.

As deadlines pass for fans of some of the biggest programs to renew their ticket packages, figures suggest things might not be as bad as once feared.

Whether because of the first signs of economic stability, or as a result of myriad compelling storylines on the gridiron, sales are down only slightly for Tennessee and Vanderbilt football games, compared to a year ago.

"We are currently tracking fairly comparable to previous years," UT spokeswoman Tiffany Carpenter said. "Our renewals are down a little, but not as much as we anticipated given the current economy."

UT sold 72,855 season-ticket renewals by the May 1 deadline in 2008. This year, 70,785 season tickets were renewed by May 1, a drop of 2,070 tickets.

Our season tickets would pack Dudley twice. Speaking of Vanderbilt, why haven't they been brought up for secondary NCAA violations yet? They simulate game every time they take a recruit into an empty stadium.

Your email makes very little sense.

To comment on what I think it is you're trying to say:
The season tickets were long sold before any shortfall in projected donations were announced. Btw, for your information, we're not short of money. We were short on follow through of contributions. This only means that building more facilities, etc. can wait a few months. No big deal.

$7.00? I'm not sure if you were trying joke around or not.

Vandy ticket sales down?

How could that be possible?

Economic stimulus at it's finest. With each gator season ticket, the holder will receive one free pair of Teebow panties in choice of Extra wide bodunkadunk, Mon'back bodunkadunk,3rd world country bodunkadunk, and GVX loper we will play in the shade bodunkadunk.

Once again I'll feed the fire and resupply the lifeblood of the little one.

It was the empty seats that gave us what we needed and gave you what you fear.

This really is a good idea. The only problem is that soon it will be the Dawgs, Tide and Gators leaving early.

Hmmm... Your only as good as the last week you played and Vandy won a Bowl game while we were home fishing. Stop hating other schools and promote our own. Why do you have a problem with the Gators "idiots" here if you do the same?

That is not a big drop off at all, but it is a drop off nonetheless. I guess I just find this hard to believe because we are expanding our stadium and have a 10,000+ waiting list for season tickets. I figured if any fan base was as buck about their football it was UT, but I guess a couple of bad seasons can do that too a school. I hope you bounce back.

This was my first season tix purchase and I was thankful to be able to get them! Man, I may get an upgrade from ZZ to QQ with the lower amount of sales. Wow! I was there for Fulmer's first game as a kid. I think it's awesome to be there for Kiffin's. I'm renewing every year... and driving 3 1/2 hrs to see them. It's my pleasure to do so. GO VOLS!!

We drive 4 hours to watch them play. My wife has sit in the same seats since 1968 when she was a child. South endzone section k close to the field. Got to get those binoculars out some but 3rd and goal is a blast with the band and students only 2 sections down it gets really loud. It has rattled more than a few opposing qb's trying to in to the checkerboards.
