Quarterback Robert Marve said today that he is transferring to Purdue.
Making his announcement on ESPN's "College Football Today," the former Miami player said he feels comfortable with the Boilermakers coaching staff and their spread offense when he was asked for reasons why he chose Purdue over Tennessee.
UT was never thought to be in the picture before Marve, a former standout at Tampa (Fla.) Plant High School, took a visit to Knoxville last week.
Marve, however, couldn't visit with UT coaches as per NCAA rules because Miami refused to release him to Tennessee. Miami refused to release Marve to UT, Florida and LSU because it believed that those schools may have had improper contact with Marve while he was still with the Hurricanes. Miami, however, claimed no wrongdoing on the schools' behalf.
Marve also would have had to pay for his schooling at UT for one year. He can be placed on scholarship immediately at Purdue.
He will sit out the 2009 season and will have two years of eligibility left.

Having another QB on this team is never a bad move with the current situation. Lets keep in mind this years HS class of QB's is considered one of the worst in many years.

Not a big deal to lose this guy. He was only going to be here two years anyway. Hopefully this will keep us in the running for a top 10 caliber QB in 2010.
volnavy4life writes:
Munchie is just like Boyd- why would kiffin not get a pro-style - Scroggins will be the guy
volnavy4life writes:
overrated in my opin from looking at tapes ....Scroggins has MUCH better footwork and quicker release
CedarHillVol writes:
agree totally with you witchy.best of luck to Marve...but I bet we get a better one on down the road!

He is down to Washington, BYU, and Tennessee per an update on scout.com on either Monday or Tuesday. Still no indications from him.

I think I'll schedule an announcement on ESPN that I am transferring to a school that I haven't spoken to and have no idea if they would have me. Oh, and pay my way.
Wait, I used up my legitemacy 25 years ago. Oh, what i meant to say, is that I used up, well, better yet, I think I'll let that one stand.
golfballs03 writes:
Well, obviously Kiffin thinks differently because he offered Munchie a scholarship.
golfballs03 writes:
I think it will be BYU or Tennessee. Is there a Mormon temple in Knoxville?
Dennis_Rogan_The_Show writes:
Completely fine with this decision...I am sure he is a cool dude, but we didn't need him. Mr. Scroggins, we need you...or Killer Cam Newton...maybe even Andrew Hendrix
volnavy4life writes:
At this point we need bodies...we've offered so many QBs its silly...doesn't change the fact that Munchie is VERY similar to Boyd...you watched the tapes?

This is good news. I feel we need to start with a couple of good young guys and let these coaches bring them up in the system. With last years recruiting class and the way this one is shaping up there should be plenty of talent to help bring them along.
UT will rule again !!!!

let's see...
take a full scholly (and sit out a year), into a school with 2 sr and 1 fr qb's on the roster, none of whom have started a collegiate game?
or...
pay my own way to UT (and sit out a year), into a school with a staff focusing intently on recruiting a '10 stud qb?
this really was a no-brainer for the kid. but to hear him say he looked closely into both schools before making his decision, and then announcing "It's the University of Purdue." sorry, kid, that ain't the school name. glad you did your homwork. see ya.

We have offered a ton of QBs - we need bodies...doesn't mean that Kiffin feels he is a Pro-style QB. Kiffin says he prefers a ProStyle- offers to Godfrey, Munchie, and Smith (who is a 3 star btw) would be all worst case scenario. For recruiting WR and RB sake we need to sign atleast 1 QB for the 2010 class.
Just different year and circumstances doesn't mean that Kiff thinks hes much different than Boyd.
UT QB offers-
Phillip Sims - bama
Jake Heaps
Jesse Scroggins
Jeffrey Godfrey
Munchie Legaux
Tim Smith
Newton
Marve
Rozier- w/o

whewwww. thank god we didn't get this moron. he doesn't even know the name of his chosen school! lol. (it's Purdue University btw...maybe they'll let him know before he speaks again.)
Major_Magilicutty writes:
It's funny to me that they consider it him picking Purdue over Tennessee. The UT coaches never spoke to the kid; he would have been a walk-on; and he knows we are going after bigger recruits. This doesn't sound like he gave us the cold shoulder at all, but that's how it is presented.
I for one am happy he chose not to come here. We have a brighter without Mr. Marve. Good luck to the guy.
Major_Magilicutty writes:
Actually, it's not really even funny to me...just irritating.
VolGraduate writes:
So that would've made 3 terrible qbs not just 2? Who cares where this guy goes to school as long as it's NOT UT
mbible1utk#324980 writes:
kinda a good thing... It's odd to celebrate someone going elsewhere, but I just didn't think the guy was what we need

agree 100%. I had no desire to see Marve here. Scroggins, on the other hand. . . . . .
All honesty, I would love to see Hendrix head to Knoxville as well. I think he is vastly underrated. He is grabbing attention fast, though.

With fans like you, it's no wonder Meyer sees ND as his dream job. Last heard from lil' Urbie he was moumbling something about it would be great to get back to a University where the students, graduates, and fans have 3-digit IQs.
BTW, latest rumor on the streets of G'ville ... when little Urbie escapes from having to play in Benny Hill, a guy by the name of Fulmer will get the Croc' job! Big Ol' Doofus mentioned something about walking in Doug Dickey's footsteps! You love him ... he's yours!
You be well lil' zzgatorboy.
