Wide receiver Tyler Maples won’t be joining former University of Tennessee teammate B.J. Coleman at Chattanooga.
Maples has committed to Furman, he told the Times Free Press in a text message Thursday.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Maples helped Maryville High School win three state Class 4A titles under coach George Quarles, a former Furman wide receiver who was on the Paladins’ 1988 national championship team.
Maples, who has three years of eligibility remaining, visited UTC last Friday and visited Furman earlier this week.

He couldn't have made it here. Big time players transfer to big time programs because they have the talent to walk in and compete.

Would have been interesting to see what he would have done on the field...We might have some Tim Dwight white players sitting on the bench, like Zach and Austin Rogers will be this fall...Well, maybe on special teams they won't be.

Tough to argue with LawCoVol. He seems to be correct since all of these guys are ending up in SmallTown U.

Nice post LawCo.
(OT) What part of Lawrence County are you from?

UTC fans need to stop offering BJ to entice recruits. They've had enough NCAA trouble lately...

They also get to play right away without having to sit out a year

costs 6 figures to go there, not a bad deal

Also some of these decisions are based on immediate playing time at lesser conference vs trying another big program and having to sit out a year.

Good post LawCo, We need the tough guys for the SEC wars, Not the guys who "Tiptoe through the tulips"!

well we know this much his degree from Furman will be more of an advantage than UTC's would have been...good luck Maples

These former weaker players who are drifting away to small programs in weak conferences were one year removed in 2008 (2007) from the SEC Championship game. There is more to this than just the players leaving en masse because they aren't good enough? Drop the kool ade just long enough to see if our new prophet...er, coach, can take us to SEC Championships and a National Title before we crown him "savior". I was in school during the Battle to Majors transition. I've been down this road once.
