How long before BD decides his better days have been seen at the coast guard school?
baldfan writes:
Not surprised. Two reasons:
1) He and his father do not like BD, and
2) He is WAY OVERRATED! He might make it in the NBA as a towel boy.
Remember our military heroes today and tomorrow.

Always love the "experts" in here. I guess you better tell Calathes that he doesn't like Donovan being that the two talk on almost a daily basis either on the phone or through text messaging.
vet4ut writes:
Called this when he first announced he was testing the waters...though I did say he would be a 2nd round pick in Greece.
vet4ut writes:
Apparently the kman29 is a personal assistant to either BD or Calathes. Surprised to see you on a UTsports message board holding that job.

No, just a sad guy trying to seem more important (and connected) than he really is.

GO VOLS!

I think he is hopeful to get on Loftons team so he could have someone on his team that if he passes the ball to they just might make a shot.
golfballs03 writes:
I liked Calathes. And he is good. Next year he should be a guaranteed 1st round pick.
BTW, what is going on at Florida?
tallfry writes:
calathes is too short and too slow for the nba. he'd have a much better chance of getting drafted next year if he had stayed at florida, where he'd be on tv several times for execs and scouts to see him, but he's smart to take his money while he can, because he hasn't improved at all since his freshman year. ol' billy d needs to do more coaching and recruiting. he probably ran because he's scared of kentucky, though. i know i am! it means something when a guy passes on florida and a free degree for greece. lofton waited to graduate, but he could have had a contract there as a junior as well. i guess players like cbp more than billy d.

I thought this was interesting. NBAdraft.net has Tyler Smith not being picked in the 2009 draft, but instead they have him listed as the 27th pick in 2010. Most likely it's speculation, but it could be a sign that Smith will be back for another year.
http://www.nbadraft.net/2009mock_draft
Follow that link the 2010 Mock draft. They also have JP Prince as being drafted in the second round. So, that may take away a tad bit of credibility from the site.
I'd be pretty excited if we really do return all of our players.

Same will eventualy happen to the football team,as it usualy does at all schools.Look at the biggies that have fallen in recent years.Michigan Tennessee,Alabama,UCLA,Notre Damn{not an error},Florida St.Washington,Miami and a lot more. You do not stay on top forever.Florida will fall in a couple or three years.Enjoy your trash talk while you can Gators. Not saying this out of hope{LOL}, just telling the truth.Hurry Vols and get back to the top.

I guess Nick had enough of college and a degree is not in the immediate future. Although we know players can make nice money in Europe. Social life rough if you don't speak the language. Oh well, one less talented _ator to contend this year.......

always thought calathes lacked just a little something. definitely stuffed the stat sheet but never seemed like a winner. maybe that's just because we've had their number for the last few years, and he put up good numbers against us, but it seemed like it always came after we had a big lead.
murrayvol writes:
Ouch! Where'd that come from. Billy's doing the best he can.

donovan is finished as far as winning the sec east, much less an outright sec title.....ky and tenn are the ones going to compete for those titles.....eddie munster should leave when the opportunity comes before they boot him in no less than three years....
kman29 writes:
oh! so a Vol fan says that Calathes and his dad hate donovan and yet Im the one trying to seem more important when I pass off information coming from Pat Dooley of the gainesville sun who is the most connected media writer in the country when it comes to UF? LOL! that is hilarious.

2005-06
The Vols went on to lead the SEC East for virtually the entire season, with other highlights being a win over Kentucky at Rupp Arena and two wins over eventual national champion Florida.
2006-07
The seventh-largest crowd in school history also witnessed Pearl's squad rout the then No. 4-ranked and defending National Champion Florida Gators.
2007-08
On March 5, 2008, Pearl's team defeated the Florida Gators 89–86 to claim Tennessee's first outright SEC Regular Season Championship in 41 years.
2008-09
UT announced that they and Pearl just agreed to a six-year extension for Pearl to stay with the university. "It's great to be a Tennessee Vol!", proclaimed Pearl.
Versus the SEC
Within two years Bruce Pearl's team had recorded a win against each of the other teams in the SEC.
vs. Florida 7 1
imagine the beat down ky is going to give fla along with the annual beatings tennessee gives them.
and yes tennessee's beat down of florida in football is coming soon, very soon
i like the way things are working out

tallfry writes:
you are no vol fan. pearl is the man. billy d is just a good recruiter who got two future nba starters at C and PF and a bunch of d-league talent in as frosh the same year. pearl is working with so much less, and we are better than i remember us ever being. you can't just 'coach up' a NC. look at the talent level. we need a CLK-esque staff for pearl to bring in some good bigs before we judge him. as is, i don't know if anyone couldve gotten more out of what we've had.
chrisw2967 writes:
Pearl still owns lil eddie munste.

What did you just start following college basketball a couple years ago?
First off Donovan's 2004 recruiting class did not have one 5 star player. It was not considered a "great" recruiting class. Just ended up being a group of guys that worked well together. But I love this idea that Donovan did nothing before those guys came.
1999- 22-9 Sweet 16
2000- 29-8 SEC Regular season champion, Final Four & NC game runner up
2001- 24-7 SEC Regular Season champ. NCAA 2nd round.
2002- 22-9 NCAA 1st round
2003- 25-8 NCAA 2nd round
2004- 20-11 NCAA 1st round
2005- 24-8 SEC tournament champion. NCAA 2nd round.
So even before the 2006-2007 national champions Donovan had a record of 193-92 over 9 seasons with 32 of those losses in the first two seasons. 2 SEC Regular season championships, 1 SEC tournament championship, 1 Final 4, 1 national title game appearance and 7 NCAA Tourmanet apperances. Yeah donovan is just a horrible coach. Maybe first you should watch the game for a little more than 2 years before thinking you know what your talking about.
kman29 writes:
You forgot that Florida won the SEC All sports Trophy....AGAIN! Can't someone within the conference give UF a run for that thing?
kman29 writes:
Billy Donovan Age 43:
15 Seasons (2 Marshall, 13 Florida)
2 national Championships
3 National Championship game appearances
3 Final Fours
4 Sweet 16's
3 SEC Regular Season Championships
3 SEC Tournament Championships
9 NCAA Tournament Apperances
345-146 Record
Bruce Pearl Age 49:
8 Seasons (4 Milwaukee, 4 Tennessee)
0 National titles
0 National title game appearances
0 Final Fours
3 Sweet 16's
1 SEC Regular Season Championship
0 SEC Tournament Championships
6 NCAA Tournament Apperances
184-75 Record
Not even close and Donovan is 6 years younger.

Not all that many 6'5" point guards in the NBA. Maybe not the fastest guy on the court, but his length helps on the D. Plus, he is a good outside shooter and a reliable free-throw shooter. The money he could make in Greece is about as good as a late first-rounder gets in the NBA. No question UF will miss him next year.
