Alcoa High School rising senior tight end/defensive lineman Tyler Robinson picked up his second Division I offer when Virginia Tech contacted him on Wednesday.
But Robinson wanted to see it in writing. He got the letter Saturday in the mail to match the one he received from Kentucky in late April.
Alcoa coach Gary Rankin said Virginia Tech wants Robinson to play tight end.
Last season the 6-foot-4, 250-pound Robinson caught 39 passes for 565 yards and 17 touchdowns for the Tornadoes, who won their fifth consecutive Class 2A state title.
Robinson, who grew up a Tennessee fan, was also 2A’s Mr. Football lineman winner and the PrepXtra defensive player of the year with 93 tackles and 10 sacks.
He plans to attends camps at Middle Tennessee State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia Tech this summer.

As much as I love the state of TN, I still have to forget the mediocre kids from TN. Look at the top talent from the state and see what they have done. Nothing special at all. It is great to see the TN guy be the hero (Travis Stephens in the swamp 2001) but the truth is they don't match up at all compared to the kids form TX, FL, LA, CA, MS, GA, AL, ect...

Give_Him_Six,
I will have to disagree as the Vols have let some pretty good talent get out to other SEC teams...got to remember, there are some good players in rural areas that have made it good...believe Bama picked one up from Marshall County that started at linebacker last yr as a freshman, and the one that really gets me, is Patrick Willis from Bruceton(west tn), that went on to Ole Miss and now all-pro....so just because the state of Tenn isn't as large as Tex, Cal, or Florida, doesn't mean there aren't good players looking to make it to the SEC...

Get him to the camp, and I trust our coaches will make the right decision with this local kid. Good size, and stats..

Jason Wittin from Elizabethton, #1 as Vol; all pro tight end for Dallas Cowboys come to mind. Not bad talent from a town in Tennessee with 15K population huh?
