Lady Vols fall in 2 OTs, 1-0

Florida ends season for UT

Lindsay Thompson's goal in the second overtime lifted top-seed Florida to a 1-0 victory over Tennessee in the first round of the SEC women's soccer tournament on Wednesday in Orange Beach, Ala.

UT senior defender Sarah Jackyra came up with a big defensive play by sliding to prevent a potential Florida shot less than a minute into the second overtime.

On the cross off Jackyra's effort by Florida's Tahnai Annis, the UF service bounced off someone out front and eventually rolled all the way through the penalty area to the left wing where Thompson was waiting to deliver a right-footed shot into the top of the net and beat Molly Baird at the 101:22.

The Lady Vols needed at least a win in the tournament - with a win over No. 10 Florida a good start - to have any hope of making the NCAA tournament. Instead, UT finishes the season 8-9-3.

"This was a very disappointing loss," Lady Vols coach Angela Kelly said. "Credit Florida because they figured out a way to put the ball in the back of the net. I thought both teams had quality chances tonight. The history of our two programs takes us through many overtime matches such as we had tonight. All in all, this was a disappointing result for our team."

The Gators out-shot the Lady Vols by a 13-10 margin and 10-4 in shots on goal.

With 1:53 left in the game, Tennessee was dealt a big blow as midfielder Mick Imgram suffered a leg injury on a hard Florida challenge near midfield and the SEC's leading scorer was forced from the match.
