Climer: Vols are on a Rocky Top roll

UT is making late push for a better bowl

KNOXVILLE — After going ahead 14-0 less than six minutes into the game, Tennessee's Vols tried an onside kick.

Leading 35-0 late in the first half, the Vols called a timeout when Memphis faced a third-and-8 play at the Tigers 14.

And then there were those three fourth-down gambles in the first half.

Sounds like Lane Kiffin isn't content just to be the most hated coach in the Southeastern Conference. Judging from what happened Saturday evening, he's spreading the gospel to Conference USA — and beyond.

UT is the only 5-4 team getting this much publicity. I think CLK knows how to play the media boys. Let's kick Ole Miss in the you know what, lots of potential recruiting in the state of Miss.

GO VOLS!!

Yeah, onside kick at 14-0 is pretty nefarious. Good grief, man.

I don't know this writer from any other, but my impression is that he is a smug little politically correct sissy dumazz.

I am a grandmother and I'll tell you Kiffin gives me hope that there are some real men with bawzz left in this world.

First of all, the little Booster club speech West made was given to a bunch of people that were there as socialites. They don't give a phooey about Tommy West or football. They attend to be seen. Real football fans are not members of Memphis State booster clubs.

Second, West makes jokes like he coaches. Pathetically!

Third, all Kiffin did was have his team play at 110% for half the game and they beat the stuffing out of this make-believe football team.

Fourth, we are not yet BCS, but it is idiotic to think we are a long way from it. Alabama may be in the NC game only because they lucked up and sqeaked by us.

Lane Kiffin's job is to recruit players and build a championship team. That is exactly what he is doing. All the men who whine and whisper and laugh at him are so low on testosterone that they act like grade school children being tattletales.

Get a clue creepy boys, cause women still love the Lane Kiffins of the world and are sick of you Latte sipping pontificators. It is men like Lane Kiffin that made this country great. It is men like Lane Kiffin that build championship football teams. And IT is men like Lane Kiffin that always ultimately win in life and leave the sissy little intellectuals sucking hind tit.

Living in Nashville, and having the Tennessean as our only daily rag, I get the "pleasure" of reading climer's columns. This guy obviously hates UT and has for quite a while, the only reason I think he writes about the vols is to take cheap shots and because no one, even in nashville, cares about Vandy. When Chris Low and several other writers bolted from this third rate excuse for toilet paper, it left climer to handle UT sports. Most articles about the Vols, in the Tennessean, are links to KNS which I greatly appreciate.

If by "nefarious" you mean "a beautifully delivered message" then I agree whole heartedly.

A win is a win no matter what time of the year it happens to be. We can't help that ky and vandy always suck and we play them in November. Also HC usually is a patsy game, with the exception of Miami several yrs ago, and this game is usually in November.
Not sure exactly what point you're trying to make. This team has been pretty solid all year unlike many games in past yrs; doesn't matter what month we've been in. Believe me, most of us would love to play Florida in November rather than September.

I don't always like everything David Climer writes, but his job is to sell newspapers and attract people to the Tennessean's (or in this case since it's a shared column the KNS) Website. If people read and comment on one of his columns or stories he's doing his job.

I will tell you that as a former student assistant with UT's sports information department that David Climer was always one of the most gracious UT beat writers to deal with. Some writers do treat students like second-class citizens, but David Climer was willing to take time to say something nice or offer a word of encouragement.
