Wiedmer: Kiffin's Voluneers look better every day

KNOXVILLE -- You always want to win your homecoming game. Especially when you're a first-year coach replacing an alum who was something of a legend and not exactly happy to no longer be in charge.

So Tennessee blowing up Memphis 56-28 on Saturday night couldn't have been more perfect for Lane Kiffin. Or a better sign that the school made the right move in pushing Phillip Fulmer to the curb last autumn.

After all, it was on this precise weekend last year -- Fulmer's firing less than six days old -- that the Vols stunningly lost to Wyoming, the clearest signal possible that the change was needed.

A year later, Kiffin and Co. made sure there would be no embarrassing reprise of that defeat. The Vols led 14-0 in less than six minutes and 21-0 early in the second quarter.

So,what do all you die-hard Fulmer fans have to say now?If Fulmer and crew had of still been around,I would venture to guess that the Vols would have struggled last night. We`re finally seeing the Vols beat the teams they`re supposed to beat, instead of making the other teams look good. No,we`re not quite out of the woods yet.But the difference in this (FIRST-YEAR) Kiffin team and last year`s team is like night and day.Good times are close for the Vols and Vol fans.Congratulations to Nukeese on his first touchdown catch. And man,Luke Stocker is another Jason Witten!Keep winning,Vols and get a good bowl game.I have a feeling this next recruiting class is going to be a monster class!GO,VOLS!!!

Stocker has been doing good, but I wouldn't quite call him another Jason Witten just yet...

Yes,you`re right. But,what I meant was that he is built like Witten. He catches the ball well like Witten did. He`s not quite as fast as Witten, nor does he have as many catches as Witten. But all that will come with time. He`s also a big `ol boy who blocks well like Jason did.
