OXFORD, Miss. – Halftime report …
Wow, the Vols got lucky on that last Ole Miss possession.
The Rebels were in great shape to go up 28-14 but botched their field position in the red zone.
Dexter McCluster, unstoppable thoughout the half, ran for 13 yards and a first down at the UT 11 with a little over a minute to play.
The Rebels should have stuck with McCluster, but missed on three pass plays. Worse, reliable Joshua Shene then pushed a chip-shot, 28-yard field goal wide.
So the Vols get into halftime down only 21-14 and will receive the second-half kickoff.
McCluster has scored on runs of 15, 23 and 39 yards and has 162 rushing yards at the half.
Jonathan Crompton has two touchdown passes, to Jeff Cottam and Denarius Moore, but the Vols have also had four three-and-out series out of their six legitimate first-half possessions.
The Vols have sustained only one drive, the 11-play march that ended in the TD pass to Moore.
The total offense battle is 260-133 in Ole Miss’ favor.
Tennessee better come up with some halftime adjustments to address McCluster.

Can the refs call a hold please!!!!

UGLY
We are VERY fortunate to be down only one score.
That said, did you see the hold on the second DMC touchdown? This is the same crew that was suspended, and that called two against us our last possession.
volpreacher writes:
Yep, they did twice on us in a row.
BamaBeacher writes:
They did, you got caught on consecutive plays. Don't look for any "magical flags" to go your way today.
movol77 writes:
Everyone saw the hold...even the line judge and referee.

their doing us like auburn did, tampa 2 is no good against the wild stuff.

Time for the defensive coaches to earn their salary. Got to do something to stop McCluster.
madmax1247 writes:
Ole Miss has definitely gotten away with some key holds and 1 pick play cross the middle! Our D ends need to keep containment. Play them 1 yard wide to line up! We must not panick though, Hardesty is still the key.
movol77 writes:
Another missed pass interference call!!!!
TurboFan writes:
What surprises me is the OL blocking by Ole Miss. I thought that was supposed to be their weak point. Guards and tackles pulling and easily sealing off the LBs on the end runs. Ends need to stop looking for the sack and just contain.
Hardesty needs to stop with the spin moves, he doesn't have a clue when to do it.
TurboFan writes:
Where is Monte? Seen lots of video of Lane and Ed but no Monte prowling the sideline.
If they don't come up with something in the second half it'll be another McCluster f---.
TurboFan writes:
Is that what you call it when Hodges stiff armed Evans in the endzone? Call Slive and let him know please.

Great play Wes!!! But is Monte even there? Where are the adjustments??? Can someone stop this rb??

They actually called a hold on Ole Miss. Wonders never cease.

Can you say turning point? Mark it in your diary boys! Now lets play some Tennessee FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

STUPID CALL! There goes the momentum!
volpreacher writes:
How is it a stupid call. Johnson makes his block Hardesty would have picked up first down.
BamaBeacher writes:
I told you people Ol Shooter can't stop this type of offense. Plus their defensive front is spanking your O-line, if those Sullins twins are SEC caliber o-lineman, the woods are full of them.
madmax1247 writes:
Not stupid. Smart actually. We cant kick a field goal from there. Crompton is on fire. We just didnt get it. We will WIN.
CRFVols writes:
I would understand it if our defense was playing well......but they're not. Obviously. I don't think anyone has handled our defense like this all year.
TennesseeGorilla writes:
I thought the refs were blind until they started calling holding on us, maybe they just can't see Ole Miss holding for every touchdown play!
CRFVols writes:
EB better start wrapping up and stop trying to make a highlight reel hit.
brokebackvol writes:
Ouch. Losing by 11 now. The defense looks like they are bored or tired.

We are missing Janzen Jackson...bad!

Johnny Majors football. Defense is clueless. Offensive threats are underutilized. Discipline problems leading up to the big game. Music City Bowl here we come!

Hate to say it but Eric Berry is terrible today. Easily the worst game of his career, I have seen nothing but missed tackled after missed tackle by him. I think he may be hurt, he doesn't seem to be going full speed.

jerseydevilvol writes:
The refs missed the holding call on the second td. Other then that we are getting out played, Their running back is eating us alive, we can't blame the refs for all the missed tackles. Still one quarter left, the game is still up for grabs, our D just needs to make some big plays and our O needs to put the ball in the endzone.
tensie2004 writes:
Our defense has let us down today. Cudos to Crompton and the offense.

Hey Lane and Monte, way to prepare the team for this game....NOT! We look absolutely horrible. Our tackling looks like a Pop Warner team, sorry that's an insult to Pop Warner teams. Very disappointed in the game plan and execution. To allow one player (#22) to beat you in inexcusable. We will be lucky to end up 6 - 6.

Agreed. Looks like we haven't recovered...

I am absolutely disgusted with our defense... I usually give props to other players when they look good against us but I am not impressed with mccluster ... anyone could run on us today... headed to wal mart to do some grocery shopping... never thought I would be to the point I would rather shop then watch the 4th quarter of a vols game...
