OXFORD, Miss. - Tennessee finally kept Dexter McCluster out of the end zone.
The Vols even forced a Mississippi turnover.
But heading into the fourth quarter, UT is facing its largest deficit of the game and yet another major test of adversity with the Rebels leading 28-17 at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
Vols senior defensive tackle Wes Brown intercepted a Jevan Snead screen pass after a field goal drew UT within four points on the first drive of the half, but it couldn't generate another score and the Rebels answered with a short score by Brandon Bolden to extend the lead.

I'm embarassed to be a volunteer today. Pathetic effort.

Quite possibly the worst defensive performance I have seen. The team should thank their 3 thug teammates. Toilet bowl here we come.
CRFVols writes:
What did our defensive staff do this week? Did they scheme or plan? The got out-coached.....and our players got schooled. Very sad effort on the part of our defense.
thevoice writes:
Complete uninspiring play by the defense today. Gotta wonder if the 3 suspensions had anything to do with the mindset of these guys.
cornnut311 writes:
Embarrassing...

I hear Nashville and Memphis are nice during the holidays, looks like the Vols will find out too thanks to this defensive performance
RJ_Vol writes:
Fire Kiffin and Hamilton. They didn't have the courage to dismiss players who deserved it. UCLA, Auburn, and Ole Miss were winnable games. CLK has underachieved w/ good talent. His team has tarnished the image of the university. Next year we lose our line, QB, RB, and probably EB. Does anyone think CLK is going to better w/out those folks? He's got a big mouth and lousy timing. Boot'em w/ the other three. Bad hire.
IslandVol writes:
Hate to say it but Eric Berry is terrible today. Easily the worst game of his career, I have seen nothing but missed tackled after missed tackle by him. I think he may be hurt, he doesn't seem to be going full speed.
kabulvol writes:
Somehow, I just knew when Ole Miss scored in 4 plays in the 1st quarter that we were in for a long day. Our defense looks terrible. Poor tackling, poor scheme. I was hoping we could make it a shootout but instead it looks like we are getting blown out.
BluezVol writes:
OMG...how embarrassing. Monte's crew certainly forgot how to tackle today. We need linebackers sooooooooo bad. Can't believe JJ had that much impact on defense.
gpsman writes:
Fornicated by McCluster.
mahabrando writes:
Jumping a little early aren't you... it is Lane's first year... given last year... we are looking much better.
Look what he had to work with...
kabulvol writes:
Our only hope is to score quick and then pick up a fumble from Ole Miss. I doubt Ole Miss passes the ball the rest of the game. Why would you win you can gain 10+ yards on each run?
jclowers writes:
RJ_Vol you have to be an idiot. It looks like the distraction this week has led to this team being unfocused. Another reason why its important not to have a lot of arrests and other behavior problems
thevoice writes:
Need to hustle and get more vertical, don't ya think?
kabulvol writes:
Put the Early Times down and relax.
thevoice writes:
Ballgame!
BIGEJ writes:
The embarrasment continues...... The defense looks like a bunch of misfits. This team is not focused nor prepared; Hang this on the arrested developments and the inability for the team/coaches to not stay focused. AWFUL Go Vols
kabulvol writes:
Hancock just got alligator arms on that slant. Terrible.

IS IT ME OR IS THE WHOLE F'IN TEAM SLEEPWALKING THROUGH THIS GAME!!! I ALMOST LOST A TV TODAY, I BLEED TENNESSEE ORANGE BUT THIS PERFORMANCE IS PATHETIC...RIDICULOUS!!!
kabulvol writes:
Blocked. Imagine that. I wonder what's the record for a kicker having FGs blocked?
BIGEJ writes:
FREAKIN' RIDICULOUS
RJ_Vol writes:
The bleeding continues. Our muddleheaded coach is incapable of anything. Fulmer was rightfully criticized when his team played this way. Kiffin deserves no defense.
VOLFROMNC writes:
Lincoln is a joke.
mahabrando writes:
I thought we learned from Lincoln and his multiple blocked kicks... guess not.
Bad coaching and D today.
We just couldn't recover from the bad news this week.
RJ_Vol writes:
Don't flatter me w/ your vocabulary youngster. You make my point w/ your last sentence. CLK had the opportunity to put this to rest - he didn't. His team is clueless. Next year we enter the abyss.

Very embarrased today, had to quit watching, don't understand it...South carolina beat them,Alabama beat them,And we are gettin embarrased on national TV!!!the sullins boys suck!!

Ever since the moron triplets got themselves fitted for orange jumpsuits instead of orange jerseys, I knew this game wasn't gonna go our way. Its unfortunate they couldn't have made morons out of themselves before a game like Memphis or Vandy where a C game can still be a win, or better yet, before they were offered scholarships, but now, there isn't anything to do but start buying tickets to the Music City Bowl and prepare for the next game. I'm embarassed for the team and coaches, but I'm ashamed of the three fools who found it necessary to act so selfishly. GO VOLS! GET 'EM NEXT YEAR!
kabulvol writes:
I hate when people say, "the team came out flat". I think that's such a BS excuse. This is the SEC, you come to play every week. Ole Miss just took us to the woodshed - and the beating isn't over yet. The defense was very disappointing. A school record for McCluster. Against UT? Wow.
I wish there was a mercy rule because Ole Miss is just gonna milk the clock and make this a prolonged loss.
RJ_Vol writes:
Save the TV! lol. If you start today, you may lose four or five by next year at this time.
one4black writes:
How many days in a row are you going to keep contributing your short racist comments. Really - how many has it been now. It's idiots like you that give us a bad name.

Art evans sucks too!!!

ILL be so glad when lincoln is GONE HES WORSE THAN JON BECKSFORT WAS WORST KICKER EVER PERIOD!
ctownvol writes:
Those Sullins boys are HORRIBLE! Lincoln is HORRIBLE! Defense is just going through the motions. Total lackluster performance.
HtownVol writes:
Is this the same Tennessee team that played the first half last week? I have never been so disappointed in a entire game. Offense has been O.K but we CAN NOT stop McCluster. Prentiss Wagner has been out of position so many times, and taking bad angles on tackles.
Daniel Lincoln... None need be said.
SmokeyWazHere writes:
Your a f***ing moron.

Hey, if their is a silver lining, I might get to see them play in the Music City Bowl when I'm home on leave!

Imploding from the core....Boring once again. I would say this is the final nail in the coffin for the three jail birds in Knoxville. I thought 6-6 this year and it's now most possible.
RJ_Vol writes:
Are you indeed where your name implies. If so, I will refrain.
jmorri30 writes:
I feel as though this is the first time this year that we have been out-coached and it is by Nutt (embarrassing).
I hate that we just threw away our chances for an excellent bowl by playing the worst game all season. There wasn't any heart or enough hustle to even play a decent game.
Something to address: the SEC officials are terrible. One of McCluster's TDs in the first half came off of an egregious hold. Our player was about to have his jersey ripped off his chest and no call!
I feel as though we should come out well enough to beat Vandy and UK but who knows.
govols26 writes:
Yea this is pathetic. Focused my azz, I hope those 3 morons never step foot on campus again- they really f'd up everything positive this staff has worked so hard to establish. Thanks a lot.
volsfan4ever writes:
I hope lincoln enjoys his last year playing!I guess thats why they've got the no.1 rated kicker coming in next year!can't wait!
HtownVol writes:
Am I the only one that can see that Art Evans does not need to be on the field? He is not a good corner at all and has never been. I guess the Arrests are killing us.
We better learn to tackle if we want to win out!
one4black writes:
This is definitely a horrible loss. Especially since the team rose from going nowhere, to most of us talking about a New Year's Day Bowl, and now back to the middle of the road or lower-tier bowl that we figured a few weeks ago. The destination will likely not shake out until the last week, as teams like Auburn, Ole Miss, UGA, etc... still have many games to play too (and they could rise or fall as well).
RJ_Vol writes:
Nice vocabulary. Truth hurts.
bruno9793 writes:
Daniel lincoln is horrible. He should never kick another field goal for us again. I wanna say Cunningham did better, but thats few and far between. Special teams are the death of this team.
