Lady Vols hit 20-win milestone

Twenty wins always sounds good. Tennessee's volleyball team hit that milestone Sunday with a five-set victory at Georgia.

The Lady Vols (20-7, 13-4 SEC) prevailed in their final road match, 24-26, 25-17, 25-18, 19-25, 15-10.

"I'm extremely proud of our players for reaching 20 wins,'' said coach Rob Patrick, "especially with how they have had to persevere through some injuries and a very tough schedule.

"We've played 17 of our last 24 matches on the road.''

Junior Nikki Fowler recorded her 11th double-double: 29 kills and 13 digs. With eight blocks, she almost had a triple-double.

Kayla Jeter and Leah Hinkey also reached double figures in kills with 12 and 10, respectively.

DeeDee Harrison made the most of her first start with eight kills and seven blocks.

Setter Kelsey Mahoney had a career-high 57 assists.

"She set the ball with consistent tempo and found the right hiters most of the time,'' Patrick said.

The Lady Vols tied their season high with 68 kills against the Bulldogs (15-13, 6-11 ).

UT closes the regular season with a three-game homestand against Florida on Friday, South Carolina next Sunday and Kentucky on Nov. 25.
