Tennessee forward Alyssia Brewer and guard Kamiko Williams will not play Tuesday night against Texas Tech or travel with the Lady Vols to San Antonio because of a violation of team policy.
UT coach Pat Summitt said the punishment was for one game and added: "If they take care of business it's over. I'm not holding a grudge. I want them to get it right and we'll move on. When you come here you go to class, you sit up and pay attention. You sit in the front three rows. If you don't, understand that you don't play."

What's in the water at UT the last few days?

Figured it was a class or curfew violation. Hope they renew their focus and come back strong in their next appearance.

Man, kind of heavy handed isnt it? Im just sayin..

You mean they were not out on the strip after curfew stealing cheeseburgers?
Way to stay consistent, Pat.

Young fools make foolish mistakes, but Brewer should know better. Nice to see Pat is still strong in her convictions and is making these ladies pay the consequences for their actions. Rules are not made to be broken ladies, at least not in the UT WOMEN'S program.

Good God, long_vol, that ranks right up there with your best efforts. Wow. The post you responded to probably shouldn't have taken the snipe at the men, although previous posters brought up the men's problems first.
"A bunch of docile women?" You're really not paying much attention...........BABE. I'll give you $100.00 for every five minutes you last in a phone booth with Nicky Anosike or Alicia Manning.........BABE.

Did you check all the facts,do your research, and check with everyone before you issued this post? Have you not learned a thing from your other posts?
t2farmer#294426 writes:
This situation hardly compares to what CLK had to deal with. There aren't many facts to examine when a player misses a class-its reported that day to the coach. Yes Pat acted swiftly(we think) but we dont know when the classes were missed -do we?
Kiffin did exactly what he should have done--get as many facts as is necessary to make a judgement and then act swiftly. Lets not forget that for all practical purposes the players were suspended from all team activity the morning after it happened. I certainly would not want him to dismiss these players without having the information necessary to defend his actions if he turned out to be wrong.

What spots are those? Next time I'm in town I may want to have some fun...since it appears you know them...
YankeeVol writes:
I also have to add - Pat's commitment to discipline is one of the reasons why she's the greatest. I would say that I love her, but that might bother long_vol too much.
Jagob38 writes:
Actually she did research it and get all the facts as any decent coach would do. This punishment is not for actions that happened to day but for actions that happened in the past.

Get it together ladies! You are to valuable to the team to be left behind. Listen to Pat and follow her guidelines!

Williams looked terrific last night. I was really surprised at how good she is as well as the amount of minutes she played. Pat has been tough on her in the media but obviously she thinks Kimiko can help the Lady Vols this year.
Volfantm writes:
I agree, Williams was a pleasant surprise. Really hope to see consistent effort on Tuesday. Especially being shorthanded. Cain looked much more mature than Griner I thought, and had a nice game. Angie B looks like she spent a lot of time in the weight room, Glory too. Go Lady Vols!
YankeeVol writes:
Why limit oneself? I'm sure they each have their qualities. I'm game for anything, and (almost) anyone.
CTOWNICON writes:
Kamiko was a big suprise to me as well. I really did not know what to expect from her but I think she handled herself pretty well. I don't know what to make of Faith Dupree yet, need to see her more before I can tell what type of player she will be. Glory has always had it, she just has to put it together and its coming I can see improvement. She has always been a hustler and a rebounder, qualities I have always liked in her. Spani has the heart and the fire, I think it will come for her. She really didn't have a bad game but it was not a great one either. Angie looks more fit this year and a step quicker and so does Cain. I guess all of that off season conditioning is really paying off. Now on to Texas Tech!

Don't question Pat! She runs her own program and has the rules.

That is why Pat has never had a girl not graduate, ever. Now if all coaches in all sports would only follow the lead of Pat.

Brewer and Williams needs to straighten up and fly right.
LdyVolFaninKS writes:
Huh? I must be as dumb as most of your posts sound, because I can't figure out this post at all. Condescending...how do you figure? Do you really think CBP would have the conviction to leave 2 players with big contributions to the team behind on a big road trip for missing a class? "Docile women"? First of all, don't use words you don't understand. Secondly, name me one player on the Lady Vols team that is docile, AFTER you look up the meaning of the word.
xvolx writes:
Was it just me or did anyone else think K. Williams looks like Maya Moore in the face.
tonyvick#213307 writes:
Kamiko is going to be very good if she does all Pat says. Glory will break out if she stays out of foul trouble and not think about it so much. With time (this year) Spani will play like a veteran. Bjorkland needs to give more she must will her shots in the basket and keep shooting. It's early but I think Faith is in the category as Smallbone not really a D-1 type player.
LdyVolFaninKS writes:
Wow, your use of the internet is impressive. Too bad you missed the entire point. We all know the statistics. The point is, if some of these men's coaches would discipline their players the way CPS does, they wouldn't be running around like a bunch of thugs breaking the rules without consequences. Committing major crimes has nothing to do with testosterone levels, but with the lack of discipline that started when they were very young. Their parents were irresponsible, now it's up to these coaches to step up to the plate, and unfortunately, it's a very full plate. I have coached both and know that a little discipline goes a long ways...most of them are screaming for it. I'm not taking a "shot" at the men players, but their coaches. As for attack tactics...you and Mike from Ucan't are the pros in that field.
ssmith82#219353 writes:
No it is not, they know the rules....follow them it is that simple. If it happens Pat will toss them off the team.

Can't argue with the wisdom of letting this discussion drop for now, but I just had to get this in. My experience of dealing with young men in both sports and the military has taught me that young men--and the age is significant--just are not deterred by fear of consequences from their actions to the same extent young women are. Young men think, much more so than young women, that they are bullet-proof. I won't argue whether it is genetics or upbringing, but it just seems self-evident to me.
You can threaten young men with all kinds of dire consequences, but they just think they won't be caught. Almost no people other than young men would charge across an open field under machine-gun fire, but young men do because they think only the OTHER guy might get hit. Women seem to have a much better capacity to learn from OTHER people's mistakes; men just have to find out for themselves. Men who survive that age-related foolish streak rapidly regress to the norm in risk-taking behavior, but women by and large just do not deviate from it to nearly the same extent at any age. I applaud Pat for her approach to discipline but I have great sympathy for any coach of men's sports in keeping his young hellions under control.
