Richardson, Edwards to appear in court Monday

A University of Tennessee football player and two former teammates charged in an attempted armed robbery won’t appear in court until Monday.

Mike Edwards, Nu’Keese Richardson and Janzen Jackson, all 18, are set to appear then in Knox County General Sessions Court. So is fellow UT student Marie Montmarquet, 22, accused of acting as the players’ getaway car driver.

Edwards and Richardson were kicked off the team this week. Jackson is still on the team but is barred from all team activities.

Richardson, Edwards, and Jackson face charges of attempted aggravated armed robbery after Knoxville police said they tried to hold up three men Nov. 12 outside the Pilot convenience store on Cumberland Avenue.

The robbery attempt happened just before 1:45 a.m. when Cory B. Zickefoose, Benjamin J. Everett and Corey M. Smith told police they’d been confronted by two men in black hooded sweatshirts with what looked like a pistol. The men demanded “everything you have,” according to court records.

The three, who had empty wallets, later identified Edwards and Richardson as the holdup men, police said.

Police stopped a 2010 Toyota Prius driven by Montmarquet soon after the holdup and found a pellet gun, two black hoodies and marijuana inside, according to records.

All four remain free on bond.

Seems these days you really have to pick your poison when it comes to young dumb kids, maybe we need to adapt a new bribe concept... Play all season without legal incidents, and get an ounce of illegal contraban for the summer!!! Least this way they sit for a game vs being dismissed from the team.

Another sad step along the way of getting this behind us all.

Hope the folks involved are ready to begin the road to becoming better citizens...

And I hope JJ was not "involved"...

Congrats to all seniors this Saturday!

Hmmmmm. Was "aggravated" in the original charge? That's not a good thing.

I would like to suggest that the KNS take a look at the 113 (more or less) young men who go to class, work their rears off just to be a part of this team, and never cause any problems because of the respect they have for that orange jersey. Maybe if you would pay a little more attention to those fine young men and less to the very few who cause problems the Volunteers would be a better team and Knoxville a little better place to live or visit.

No it wasnt and prob still isnt... It is prob just KNS trying to make it out to be worse than it is... This story was on here the past few days... For some reason they decided to imbelish it alittle and repost it tonight... I guess not enough people were talkin in the forums, so they had to instigate it again...

I agree, but it wont happen... too many posts would be happy and cheerful! No arguements and name calling going on... And it also might make people think that there are a he*l of a lot more "good" apples in the bushel than "bad"... They cant let UT look good now can they?

I feel that this was a mistake that all involved made. I just wish that things could have been done a little more fairly. But hopefully Edwards, and Richardson will get another chance somewhere else but its obivous that jackson is who they wanted to save.
