Tennessee is 15 minutes away from bowl eligibility.
The Vols didn't do much to clinch it in the third quarter though.
Jonathan Crompton threw his first interception in 142 attempts, another drive was derailed by a personal foul penalty and UT gave up a Vanderbilt field goal, but it still leads 24-13 at Neyland Stadium.
Rico McCoy and Herman Lathers have combined for 23 tackles for UT's injury-ravaged defense, which has allowed a few long drives but only one touchdown so far.
Senior running back Montario Hardesty has piled up 109 yards and a touchdown in his home finale.

Two bad calls. One on the punt and now a phantom pass interference on the INT. Why don't they just give Vandy some points to start the game with?
Good hands Brice!

bad play

bad night
another tough UT game to watch
should have been an offensive blowout
no points in 2nd half? sickening

I agree, the officiating has been terrible in the SEC this year. I can't remember a season with so many call deciding the outcome of games,or at the least giving the appearance of favoring certain teams. It really makes it look like the league is really trying to make sure they have 2 undefeated teams going into the SECCG, and the 1 and 2 tems going into the BCS. If you have to do it by having the refs do it for you, it really does give the appearance, true or not, of the league deciding who will win the division, and possibly, the National Championship.

Great job, Wes Brown. On Senior night, interception for a TD!!!!!!!

God I miss John Ward. Nobody can ever make me feel like John did. I feel like part of my family is gone, even though John's still alive, part of the magic of Vol football is missing.

Wes Brown was determined to get the TD. He drug #27 10 yards before falling in the endzone. What a great finish to a boring 2nd half on senior nite!
Do you see Kiffin running down the sideline and bump Crompton? ROFL!

Almost wants to make you pull for Texas doesn't it?

I'll tell you what's going to happen. Texas will lose in the Big 12 championship game to Nebraska and then either Florida or Alabama loses in SEC championship and TCU is going to wear out the winner in the championship game.

well, it might not have been pretty. but i'll take a 31-16 win over an sec opponent any day. and this just in, we've surpassed our win total from last year and we're bowl eligible. couple that in with what has seemed to be a cursed season when it comes to injuries, i'll say the kiffin's have done a hell of a job. i loved the enthusiasm lane showed on the side line when brown scored that TD, the guy truly loves to win. lets go show kentucky what we're made out of and get that 7-5 record i predicted at the beginning of the season.
GO BIG ORANGE!!! WE LOVE YOU SENIORS (AND EB)!!!

I know this is off topic, but is there anyone besides myself that wants Texas to just whip the living Sh^# out of Fla/Bama??

There were more than just 2 bad calls. Pass int in first half that kept vandy on the field for thier TD, illegal contact with the long snapper (B.S.), and the pass int on the interception in the end zone. Pathetic!!!!!!!!!!!! Slimey Slive cannot possibly with good conscience defend this type officiating. Yet, all year long he has refused to straighten the refs out.
Good victory for the VOLS. Great to see W.B. close out Senior day in great fashion. He would not be denied. Loved the shot of Kiffin going nuts on the sideline when Wes scored.

Go ahead and fine me...overall the officiating in the SEC this year has been horrendous (unless you're Florida). The proof is in the instant replay.

UT has never lost a ballgame, football or basketball nor basketball. I swear I've never seen such whiners about officiating. It happens every time UT loses or has a close game over what is supposedly an inferior opponent. It's a conspiracy. I'm sure the officials would rather have Vandy win the game with it being the perennial football powerhouse and all.

These refs are embarrassing. Doubt Kiffin can keep his mouth shut about that reffing. Lord knows I couldn't
Lostvolinhighweeds writes:
Coach Kiffin REALLY needs to not comment on the bad calls. Pure attempt by Slive to bait Coach so he can 'dis' him.

Easy kd, you might have to pull the check book out.
p.s. another horrible game for the SEC "officials"

No doubt. I at least would make it exciting and know what's going on.

I also miss John Ward, and before that Lindsay Nelson. These guys just don't quite make it. Nobody says "It's football time in Tennessee" like John Ward did. I wish they would just replay him saying that during every kickoff. Give him royalties.
volpreacher writes:
No, they just want Kiffin to lose. He has called them out.

Like to see Texas put a stompin on UF. Don't care that much about Alabubba. The way I see it, even if Bama were to go the the NC and win, they would get the win stripped from them in a couple of years along with a fresh term of probation. I like how someone put it....
"Probation...an Alabama tradition."
Go Vols!

One question- this may be blasphemy but has Berry gone Jamal Lewis on us? He has disappeared the last few games. Is he close enough to a huge check that the "dont want to get hurt before the draft" has entered his mind? he certainly is not throwing himself around with abandon anymore.
Am I off base on this thought?

I wouldn't trust anyone with the screen name "bluevol"!!! So you can take your comment about the Vol fans b1tching about the officiating and slam it where ever you want. If you haven't or don't want to acknowledge the inability of the officials to call a fair and balanced game, you haven't watched any SEC games this year. If it was a non issue, then why are all the big media outlets talking about it? Oh, I know, it's because all of us UT fans carry so much weight. You must be a UF fan or a UA fan, because everyone else in the SEC has had a reason to question the officiating in the SEC this season.

With all due respect, yes, I think you're off base.
However, I wouldn't argue the point with Arian Fumbles (I mean Foster). That got him a gig on a practice squad.
I know, I know, he's making more than me. But I bet it bothers him that he ran east and west right out of the record books as the all time leading rusher at UT.

And to whoever said that they would pull for texas. I will NEVER pull for a SEC team opponet in a NC game. As much as I hate oscar cryer, I have to pull for the SEC in ALL bowl games, anything less is treasoness. I know Vol Fans, but I have to stay in conference. Wow, look at UK giving UGA a hell of a game, next Saturday might not be the cakewalk I was thinking it was gonna be.

I know, but I can't let stupity just run rampant. It's been a tough year defending CLK and dealing with the haters, I'm just a lil tired. But to make me feel a little better, Weis and ND got their a55 handed to them.
tdvol1989 writes:
I agree. Go ahead and get that suspension. Maybe it will really motivate the team. I have seen several posters list the bad calls, but I have yet to see someone mention the obvious hold on Stocker when he tried to one hand one (near interception). That should have been Pass Int on Vandy.
Sometimes the truth is more important than some pansy fine or suspension. Someone else mentioned the GAME-CHANGING nature of the bad calls this year. There has to be public support for the refs, but Slive needs to take them ALL to the woodshed in the offseason. A bad call here or there happens, but it should even out. Tonight, ALL the questionable calls went to Vandy...IN NEYLAND!!!
orangepridenation writes:
so...we play kentucky next week. in all honestly we struggled today with lowly vanderbilt. best believe kentucky will bring their A-game next week, so i sure hope our guys can get their mojo back that they've lost over the last two weeks. don't get me wrong, i love the win tonight, but i sure hope they can put together a more encouraging performance next week. and we've yet to win a road game this year, even though our few road games were against very tough opponents, not to mention conference opponents, we're 0-3. that only adds to the pressure of this game, also factor in our ownage of kentucky over the years, this game has upset written all over it. they're playing pretty good football right now, and we've sort of come down off our high that we had going mid season. plus the injuries. i really don't know where i'm going with this, but this game makes me nervous. c'mon guys, lets finish the season with a bang and get some confidence going into bowl season!!
GO VOLS!!!

UK just WHIPPED UGA. Next Sat. is not going to be a gime game. Brooks has Kentucky playing at a very high level. I just hope that CLK and the rest of the coaches will have our boys ready for the task at hand. The difference between 6 and 6 is a huge one from 7 and 5. As much as I would love to go see the Vols in my hometown, I would much prefer a better bowl than the Music City Bowl.
nashvol34 writes:
And what about our walk on kicker? My hats off to him. My only question is,why did it take so long for CLK to figure out that Lincoln was garbage?
HartfordCTvol writes:
I agree w tdvol989. There is usually a balance of bad calls but there was a blatant slant towards vandy tonight. Same with the Bama game. These officials are trying to send a message to Kiffin to keep his mouth shut in the future. This isn’t just a whiny UT fan talking either. Other coaches around the SEC have had problems with the refs. Even Urban Meyer, who was fined $30K for a small comment. Slive thinks because he can get a bunch of University Prez's to sign a form letter we should all bend over and take it. These are the same Presidents that won't give us a playoff even though the fans poll overwhelmingly in favor. There’s nothing Kiffin can do except file a worthless complaint. Fat lotta good that protocol has apparently done.
bluevol writes:
Well tampa, look at the posts and you'll see what I said is true. Almost every post is about the officiating and Vol fans do this every time they lose or have close calls. I read last year's basketball boards and it was ridiculous. The Vols lost 14 games last year and after each loss the posts were all about how horrible the officiating was. The refs aren't out to get UT and many teams are victims of bad officiating. It happens all the time and unfortunately it's part of the game.

bad calls
personal foul hitting someone beside the pile - the play was still live and the whistle did not blow till well after the block on a live play.
Hitting the snapper while his head is down- replays clearly show the snapper was completely upright before contact was established.
Pass interference- d back stepped in fron of receiver and played the ball
No call on pass to tight end- replay clearly shows r arm being held by defender
Holding on fake converted punt- replays show no hold by anybody especially the # 6 called.
It could be worse- watching the notre dame game I told my son theres a reason notre dame wins late at home and then bingo uconn get not 1 but 2 game winning tds called back for phantom holding calls.Uconn won in OT because I think even the refs knew they couldn't get by with calling another one.
Something has to be done with SEC officials they think THEY are the game and continue to make calls on what the thought they saw instead of making calls on what actually occured.SEC officials are becoming the joke of college football.
