Tell Q.B. it is 4th down on every play..Kick the ball into the endzone on kick-off..Run the ball more and have the receivers catch the ball. Sounds simple to me. Had we done these simple things we would have won two more games.

We've got to do something about our kickoff coverage and special teams play. This is killing us and setting the tone for the other team every game. We cannot expect the defense to go out at their 40 or our 40yd line after every kickoff and keep them from the scoring. Hell, all Auburn needed most times was 2 first downs and they were in field goal position. This is unacceptable and Kiffin and Gran needs to seriously target this problem.

Auburn's QB couldn't miss, our's couldn't (for whatever reason) complete a pass until too late in the game to make any difference. I felt so sorry for our overworked defense. They had to call timeouts in the second half just to catch their breath. How do they keep the moral up on defense? What a great bunch of guys!!

Hard to believe we had more passing yards than auburn..I agree that if they used Stocker with a little more imagination he would get us plenty of first downs!!!The pass to him that missed in the end zone had him lined up stupidly on the wrong side of the formation; forcing him to cover too much ground at the back of the end zone in too little time; there was a time when Jason Witten was the best reciever on the team; these are similar times

I would have thought we would a little more imaginative on offense. Perhaps the talent/attitudes of some won't let us. With Hardesty/Brown/Oku/Poole/Teague/G Jones/Nuke - why not try a simple version of the wildcat? It just seems that we could be doing more than trying to immitate what USC did with Lineart/Bush/...etc. Maybe I'm wrong but I'm getting dissapointed looking at (what seems to be) tape from last year's diaster.

Punt on first down and keep Crapton off the field maybe the defense can score enough to keep it close.

do the Nu-gun thing again and again, keep the running game going, it has been proven "IT WORKS"! Tenn is not a throwing team, Kiff needs to get off of his pride and think of the team, not his pride, that is one thing God hates and that's PRIDE....

morelockd writes:

Tell Crompton he is a little baby and needs to quit before he's fired. Tell Kiffin to leave his shirt on and worry about his players catching the ball, not what color he looks best in. Tell the defense to use angles in order to cut off the runner. Have the kicker do the only thing he is expected to do. And tell those boys to get out there are crack some skulls! Play freakin 100%!

bjwhite writes:

When there is no competition at QB what’s the point of reopening competition at the other starting spots?

The question should be, when is Kiffin going to swallow his pride and give his back QB a chance to perform? At any other position on the field our coaches would not tolerate such poor play when you are not wining. We (the fans, the team and the coaches) need to see if the backup can go out there and make the bare minimum of plays that can help you win, because we are not getting those bare minimum of play now.

I agree. I think something that most people (morons) blatantly overlook is the fact that the WRs keep dropping passes. They were guilty of it last year too. A few of Crompton's interceptions this year were caused by the WRs (Jones) tipping the ball up for the opposition to make a play. Jones is obviously a great blocking WR, but his hands and effort to catch the ball are questionable.

Also, if UT didn't have that extra point blocked and made that one missed field goal, the game would have been tied and probably gone into OT. Ut is just a few plays away from being a decent team. The offense has looked progressively better over the past two games. I think very shortly we are going to see a completely different team for the better.

How many of Crompton's passes were behind the receiver?
I agree that the receiver should be able to make the catch if he can get his hands on the ball, but the QB's throws need to be more accurate than the ones we saw on Saturday.
Kiffin needs to play to win NOW. The only chance for that is going back to the run-heavy offense UT ran against uf.

With all due respect, you all can spin this a number of ways. Let me first say that Chiz is not making excuses for his 5-0 team in Auburn, and please don't start w/ Auburn's cupboard wasn't empty. I saw UT vs. Auburn laster year and it was anemic. Our players responsible for the passing game(WR's and QB's) are probably the most poorly coached at those position since I have been watching UT football for well over thirty years. Our QB set the ball on the ground after a snap and fell down on a hand-off - that's just last Saturday. I'd like to see what pick-Nick could do. It can be no worse than this turnover festivus we have had for the past few weeks. Let's even try the option. Our run game is indeed better than last year. However, the passing game is non-existant unless the other team is in the prevent-D. One of CPF's greatest faults/strengths was his loyalty, and he seemed to have difficulty w/ making adjustments at halftime. CLK has had all season to make adjustments and it's just not happening. Chiz installed a new offense w/ less talent and beat us on the road. I state again. Who of the SEC power schools is CLK going to consistently outcoach in the future? Really, who?

zero excuses here. coaches, i'm sorry, but you have to coach up and play the hand that was dealt you. if that means more "wildcat" or shotgun offense, or God forbid, quarterback change, THEN DO IT!!!!!!! very few screen passes, wildcat one time, that actually worked, put JC in the shotgun. there is too much money going in and out of K-town, but "us fans" have to sit there and watch this. i understand it will take a while, but NOT changing anything up except twin tight ends, or single tight ends really isn't going to scare anyone. utilize what you do have, speed with freshman, hard running with hardesty and rb's, shotgun and spread the field and get the xtra man or two out of the box. just DO SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!!!

Our secondary is so bad that your WRs will be open. If they cannot connect, then you will know for sure that it is a QB issue. My Dawgs are a lot worse than their record indicates. Kind of interesting reading about the problems with the Vols. Very...Very similar to what is going on in Athens. If anything, this will be one of the more evenly matched games in the SEC East this season, and both (it seems) are having down years. At least you have a new coaching staff....we still have the same. Here's hoping for a good game. Good luck the rest of the way Vols. We both need it.

Crompton doesnt need to attempt any pass longer than that. The RISK is not worth the gain.

Yeah, right.Crompton can`t help it if the receivers don`t have arms on their backs, and they`re not ten feet tall, and are unable to jump like kangaroos for the high, fast throws!Yes,the receivers DID drop some passes, but come on!Be real!Crompton smells!

RebelVol writes:

This is a very winnable game. Georgia has a very weak run defense. Pound the rock. Their d-line is not physical enough to handle Hardesty. I expect us to come out fast with the run. If we can get a solid run game started, it could open up holes in their secondary(which isn't exactly good either), so we can hit em with some short screen passes. We are reeling right now, but so is UGA. This game couldn't fall at a better time, and I expect this one to be close. We need to get to their freshmen QB early, put a good lick on him, make him feel uncomfortable. This is the weakest defense we will face in the SEC this season.

I agree that bama will bring a much more potent D, but I think UGA's defense is good sometimes and poor sometimes, and they haven't played well on the road this season.
Georgia's offense is almost equally unpredictable.
I will bring my ridiculously unwarranted optimism and overworked vocal cords to Neyland on Saturday in hopes that the Vols can surprise the nation with a good SEC win THIS YEAR.

If our wideouts catch the 7 dropped passes, Crompton is at 62% completion with over 300 yards passing. Shut up with bagging on Crompton. It is not HIS fault alone. A team wins together and loses together. Seems like none of you whiners have ever played an organized sport before.

We played to our result top to bottom. Even the best player in college football missed easy tackles and two shots at easy picks (easy for him, that is).

Our kicker makes a field goal and an extra point, where are we?

The ball hits a wide open receiver in the head.

Kiffin is playing the hand that was dealt him, every conceivable way. If you are a Vol fan, get on board and support the team. 7-5 is within our reach, with 8-4 not an impossibility. The season is not over. We need to make Neyland a place where people come to fear playing, instead of laughing at our buffoon drunk idiots booing the players they should be coming to support.

Hang in there jcvet. This time last year a bunch of us were asking for players that gave 100% effort, players who showed enthusiasm and dedication to the footVols, players who kept there noses clean off the field, players who understood what it means to be a student-athelete, players who did not "quit" on the field, and a coach who believed the same and was willing to strive toward these goals at any cost.

I think we have a coach who is working toward these goals and according to the headlines today, he is still weeding out a few malcontents. When all is said and done, once we get over this hump -- and it may take awhile -- the wins will start coming.

No, I don't totally agree with everything Lane Kiffin has done. But, in my opinion he has certainly done a whole lot more good than bad. The wins will come.

Be well my friend and Fear The Kiffin...

Pound the rock more? YES

Stay in 2-minute drill the whole game? YES

More Widcat? YES (only saw it once against Auburn and it worked).

Re-open competition for starting spots? YES, YES, YES. I thought that's what Kiffin said he was going to do when he first got hired.

Maybe if Crompton gets bumped he'll want to push even harder to stay the starting the QB. Sometimes threat is the best motivation.
