Warren dismissed from team

Brandon Warren left the field in disgust on Saturday night after tossing helmets and arguing on the sidelines with a coach.

Those will be the last images of the junior wide receiver with Tennessee.

The Alcoa product was dismissed by the Vols on Monday after his latest incident pushed coach Lane Kiffin past his breaking point.

"Brandon Warren is no longer with our team," Kiffin said. "He has been dismissed for conduct detrimental to our team. We wish him the best of luck.

"We’ll give him full academic support to keep him going in school, and that’s the last I’m going to comment on it. Very unfortunate."

Not that suprised, this rebuilding project is too delicate of a situation to let people stay who yell at coaches in front of 100,000+ fans.

Just because the kid spouted off a bit? After all he tried to do to get back playing ball.

I am really disappointed in Kiffin's decision.

Time to face the facts on Warren. He did not put forth the effort necessary during fall camp. It was reported nearly every week about Kiffin’s disappointment in his actions and commitment to the position and the team. Warren’s failures are Not Crompton’s and Stephens fault, but rather his lack of commitment during practice has a lot to do with the failure of the passing game. Jones and Moore had injuries that prevented them from developing the continuity between QB & Receiver but Warren had no excuse for not stepping up.
I know Crompton is nowhere near as accurate a QB as we want so don’t read my statement wrong, but some of the blame does fall on the receivers with the dropped passes, blown assignments and poor route running. Warren is a big part of that problem.
Some have been defended this childish emotional outburst as something UT needs. Dissension in the ranks divides a team and has no place at UT or anywhere else. Maybe if Warren spent as much energy in becoming the elite receiver and in improving his game then he would have something to stand on.
This happened as a culmination of a lot of things (poor performance on the field and during practice, the explosion on the coaching staff) He deserved what he got and maybe he’ll rethink he actions and turn his career around.
Keeping it Real
Go Vols!!!

Perhaps you should start supporting Alabama or Florida. You can start by taking the Vol out of your name when you post from now on. People need to calm down just a little and realize that this coaching staff is in the early stages of rebuilding a program. It takes time to do such a thing. Maybe one day you and some of the other unrealistic fans who post here quite often claiming to be vol fans will understand.

You have got to respect your coach... Hes been noted as a lazy player, these young men have been spoon feed ever since their high school coach thought they were D-1 players. They are being payed to practice, play and conduct their selves the best they can. They may not like the way things are but the coach is still the boss. Theres alot of kids that would love to have a free ride.

Perhaps b/c a lot of orange koolaid was handed out since Kiffin showed up & now Kiffin has a team that may not go .500 after some fans were saying 9-3 was possible. That may be a sufficient answer to your question.

This is my first post and i have to say something about this. I mean with fat phil a player like this would have been given chance after chance. The coaches coach and the players play. But you have to follow the coaches and just play and respect them. And please get off these coaches back they still don't have there players. Couple of years we will dominate just give them some time. Thank you have a good evening

The Nuke play to begin the game was a good call. But do you honestly think that is the answer for an entire game? I don't think much of Crompton either and I don't know how good or bad Stephens is but I am willing to give this coaching staff time and trust their decisions. This season is going to be rough and we all know it. Be patient and maybe this staff will surprise you down the road. If you can't be patient and understand the situation, then cheer for another team. It's that simple.

UT lost to UCLA at home because of coaching. UT was thrilled with not being blown out at UF. UT lost to Auburn at home because of coaching. We have G jones spouting off and the new staff throws him the ball more and decides that him dropping a majority of the passes was okay. We have Warren getting his career ended for doing the same thing as G jones, Coaching? We have commits jumping ship like it was the Titanic, coaching?

Exactly. This wasn't just "spouted off a bit" but got physical with a coach. No excuse or exceptions, regardless of who you are, or "think" you are. Plus there has been other issues with this player.

BW had a problem with the FSU staff and without completeing the NCAA year-in residency requirement was dead in the water at FSU. While at a community college, FSU decided to release his scholarship so that he could move and play elsewhere. It was Kiffin who filed two motions with the NCAA for eligibility and for financial aid. To repay Kiffin for his troubles BW was lazy at practice, wouldn't learn the playbook (routes- what a surprise) and was experiencing some academic challenges. Seems his work ethic wasn't exemplary in that area either. The bottom line here is you have a young adult acting like an early teenager wanting everything to be given to him. Too lazy to work for his keep it appears. It is a shame young men have to learn lessons that will haunt them for the rest of their days. Do some research on the internet..you can find more about BW. I hate to see a kid get the boot, but he has to learn you get what you're willing to work for.

i lined up against warren in high school when he was a sophomore and i was a senior, and he was all i could handle (or couldn't handle)...that kid was a load. however, regardless of how talented you are, if you don't have your mind and attitude right then you are a detriment to the team. i would rather root for a team with character and passion (i.e. montario hardesty) than a team loaded with bad attitudes. I'm sure everyone does, so we shouldn't feel too upset about this. I guess this means another scholarship just opened up, huh?

That's my 2 cents

You are EXACTLY right. Fulmer let us sink to the depths of despair. How did we let him get by with it for so long. Now, a bunch of "Not True Vols" think Kiffin can fix in one season what Fulmer has been working on for 9 years to bring down. Go Figure.

Coaching has by no means cost us games. the playbook we have been running has been busting open all over the place, but the with a bad qb the landslide begins. guys are open and the pass isn't made like it should be. The staff will get its qb recruit(whoever it may be and everything will fall into place). the play that kicked off the game was great but there is no reason to become a wildcat team just because of one successful play.
CLK has got to look beyond whatever he is staring at and watch a football game. crompton had at least 8 balls that were borderline uncatchable if not completely so. warren was a great athlete but obviously needs to grow up. this is a serious university in a serious conference, and there is no room for kindergarten actions on the sidelins. granted he was listed as a reciever, he was still doing alot of TE work and Stocker is a way better choice than he. harder worker and knows the playbook.

keep claening house Kiffin. next years SEC championship team doesn't need any bad vibes!!!

The_Greater_Pumpkin writes:

The truth about this kid is that he has never gotten it! Things didn't go exactly as he wanted at FSU, so he left. He didn't work hard here, so he didn't get to play. I'm sorry if he was coddled at Alcoa. The guy has had issues all the way back through high school. He didn't get to play on the state championship game as a senior because he was suspended for fighting. Just because you are a good high school player with some tallent, does NOT entitle you to anything!!! Ask people from Blount County, this has been going on with this guy for a long, long time!!! Playing college football is a privelige, NOT A RIGHT!!! Good job, Coach Kiffin! This is unfortunate, but necessary!!

armyvol22 writes:

This is the right move. Coach Kiffin needs to back his coaches. Warren must have thought he was above the law. He might have gotten away with it under Coach Fulmer, but Coach Kiffin made the right choice. We don’t need players trying to show up the coaches and we don’t need the negativity.

Warren you better get your education. It doesn’t look like football is in your future.

Tennessee needs all of their player working together and this was a major distraction for the other players. Thanks Coach Kiffin for being stern.

Don't know if anyone else saw this or not but from where I was, section x3, the play where JC bounced one off of QH's helmet, BW was the outside WR, may have even been in the slot, either way, he made a b-line to our sidelines throwing an absolute fit. I believe that's where it all started. He should've never been allowed back on the sidelines after that. Good move by CLK. Good luck brandon.

It is a sad state of affairs and a testament to the "entitlement mentality" that has so permeated our society that anyone would think that it is okay to "spout off a bit" at a coach and think there shouldn't be consequences. I'm "really disappointed" in Major Magilicuty. Warren simply showed that he is as cancerous as Terrell Owens just sans the talent. I really do hope the kid gets his act together, learns from the experience and graduates.

Tommy2Tight writes:

i just hope all you doubters stay where you are, in the woodwork, next year when we come back strong you fans make me sick. your the same people who wanted fulmer's head last year and you won't be happy until we win another championship. you just have to realize that takes work, which kiffin and co. are putting in at a rediculous rate. if you knew football maybe you could keep your mouths shut and root for the team no matter what.

Took the words out of my mouth. This process takes time. No one looks at the positives of the new coaching staff, like you pointed out. I am all for winning, and I am very pi$$ed of about how this season is going. But all of yall need to take a look back and remember that these kids are STUDENT-athletes. Fulmer saw it the other way around. As long as my Vols bust it on the field, in the classroom, and in the community, i don't give a sh$%t what the score is, I will always be proud of them. Hats off to Kiffin for setting high standards, because this team needed it, not only on the field, but in life in general. Having said that, I wish the best of luck to you Brandon Warren, and hope you will mature more as time goes on
