Vanderbilt RB suspended after police stun him during arrest

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Vanderbilt has suspended sophomore running back Jermaine Doster indefinitely following his arrest by Nashville police in which they used an electonic stun device to stop him during an early morning fight.

Coach Bobby Johnson confirmed the suspension Tuesday.

Doster was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct after police noticed a fight in downtown Nashville. Doster followed some people across the street. The arrest affidavit says Doster kept fighting and officers had to use a stun gun to stop him.

The Tampa, Fla., native was suspended for the 2008 season after being charged with three misdemeanors for refusing to leave a Florida night club. He is the younger brother of the late Kwane Doster, a Vanderbilt running back shot to death in Tampa in 2004.

Sounds like the end for this young man, sad that he can't get it together long enough to get a free education from Vandy.

These kids get a great opportunity and screw it up. I hate to say it but he will probably end up just like his brother if he doesnt get his act together.

tampa, florida native, hmmm...did he run 4 blocks like the gator kid?

it's like a crime blotter these days, trying to follow football. heard a report on espn (sorry, no link) that a "chain-saw sculpture" of thurman thomas was unveiled yesterday in a park across the street from ralph wilson stadium. weighed 1000 lbs, and was installed with a crane. stolen last night, unbelievable.

in a related report, numerous dawg fans who showed up at the uga athletic complex with chainsaws were disappointed when dc willie martinez declined to pose for them.

In some bizarre, parallel universe, Vandy players are tased and arrested while Vol offensive linemen graduate in three years with degrees in Economics and enroll in graduate school.

Ok; I'm going to stop now. I'm freaking me out.

In the last 10 months vandy has had more players take a ride in the back of police cars than we have. Thank you Kiffin

It makes you wonder what these idiots are thinking(well probably are not)when they decide to go out to a club, participate in a fight, and ignore officers...

He must have thought he was actually enrolled at thug u(UF for the uninformed)where that stuff goes away with a pat on the hand.

Tons of ignorant things so far this season with the biggest imo being the Oregon running back who punched the other team's guy,his own teammate, and tried to fight with the fans(or anybody in the vicinity).Never fear though sooner or later another kid will top it for the biggest idiot award...

Entrance requirements have been eased for some time for the student-athlete at Vanderbilt, although I don't have any hard proof to support that. Private schools can keep things like that private. I've been told it has something to do with George Peabody across the street that merged with Vandy many years ago, which in-turn provided a generally easier curriculum and where most of the athletes classes are located. However, even if the requirements have eased for the student-athlete it's probably still a notch above all other SEC school's requirements. Anyone out there know what the specifics might be?

agreed wholeheartedly. Sadly for some, there is yet to be developed a dumb-azz vaccine. It remains a relentless, progressive, and often fatal disease.

Vandy can admit whoever they want to, its a private school. So whatever the minimum SEC and NCAA qualifications are would establish what their minimum would be.
