UT gets its shots in tie vs. Florida

Even without winning, the Tennessee Lady Vols made forward progress in soccer Friday night.

The Lady Vols tied No. 11 Florida 2-2 in two overtimes before a crowd of 1,102 at Regal Soccer Stadium. The outcome kept UT unbeaten (4-0-1) in its last five home matches against the Gators.

Chelsea Hatcher and Julie Edwards scored for Tennessee (7-5-3, 3-2-2 SEC) and goalkeeper Molly Baird had six saves against Florida (10-4-2, 4-1-2).

Tennessee outshot Florida 26-14 and had 13 corner kicks, compared to four by Florida.

"This was an exceptional effort from our team as a unit,'' Lady Vols coach Angela Kelly said. "Collectively this was our best game going forward all year and that excites me for the future of our program."

Florida's Holly King scored the match's first goal, converting a cross by Angela Napolitano

Tennessee's Hatcher stole the ball in the penalty area and tied the score at 1-1 at 34:14.

UT's Edwards scored off Mick Imgram's cross at 50:52.

Florida's Tahnai Annis scored off a rebound at 85:56.

"I believe these sorts of games are why players come to Tennessee,'' Kelly said. "Our 14 underclassmen grew up a lot tonight and that will serve us well going forward."
