I'm going to go out on a limb here and predict that the Vols pull the massive upset.

How do they do it? The Defense that held Florida to 23 and the Offense that pummeled UGA both show up for the game. IF both those squads turn out AND IF they play with a good sized chip on their shoulders AND IF Bama disregards them as a threat...then I think UT pulls out a close win. Of course, IF Crompton and Jones begin to regress it'll be a long, long day.

If our special teams shows up the way it did against Auburn, this one could get ugly. Arenas is too dangerous to punt to. But at the same time, if we do show up on special teams, watch out. Crompton has confidence, as do our recievers. This is the perfect time for us to play bama. Need a stout d-line effort to contain Ingram. With these two defenses i expect a close one with a lot of field goals(A la 06 and 05 games)

I would think UT fans are having a little fun b/c the UF trolls are always on this site trying to talk smack. Funny, when UF gets a game from the zebras, no trolls insight!

Bama is actually ranked #2 in BCS poll which is the one that really counts. And I was at the TN/AL game on Oct. 15, 1982 when we beat #2 AL for first time in 11 years! I was 10 years old and will never forget that game! My dad put me on his shoulders and we went down on the field after the game. Goalpost came down. Great memories!

Bamer's D will have no answer for the SEC player of the week.

GahLee writes:

On offense we don't have to be spectacular to win, avoid turnovers and just move the chains, easier said then done of course as their D is very good.

But I believe that we can effectively run the ball on them as we have on everybody else, it will boil down to Crompton and the receivers to stay on the same page.

On defense priority number 1 is stopping Mark Ingram, he is the best back in the SEC and should probably be number 1 in the Heisman race. I think that our D can contain him though.

We can get pressure on the QB and put them in some uncomfortable 3rd and long situations. Our D will do what they do.

Special teams is a whole different situation, beware of Jones and Arenas, they can/may be the difference makers in this game.

With all that said I have a feeling that UT will win.

UT-23 UA-17

Go Vols!!!

You've got it exactly right..As much as I love the Vols and hate Saban; the facts are what they are!!I watched most of the So. Carolina game and saw only one small weakness...Bama QB is a bit inconsistent..Cody is a moving brick wall and unless our under sized line plays the game of the century we won't have much running game; So far NO team has even slowed Ingram and T. Richardson plays more like a junior than a true freshman..Even the kicker is great!! Right now Bama is watching film on the roll out and will have DE waiting to welcome Crompton with open arms...On the positive side the So. Carolina game was very physical and Bama took some licks..WE had a Bye and rest..In the past some of our worst games followed a bye week but our new staff should overcome that..All in all Iam praying for turnovers and get the feeling Berry may get some big time INT's that rattle McElroy..It will take a masterful game plan by Lane to get this victory..GOOO VOLSSSS

They're good but beatable. Our defense can definitely control their offense and we need a huge effort from special teams. Jones can break it at anytime from anywhere. If our offense has some success in controling the ball and doesn't have any catastrophic turnovers I like our chances. I fully expect this coaching staff to steal a win this year...hopefully it's this weekend.

1974Vol writes:

Bama looks very beatable to me. The only offense they had was Ingram and they didn't get an offensive TD until they went to the Wild Cat with Ingram late in the game. Their defense is good but SC moved the ball on them and had several shots in the red zone and just couldn't convert. I will go out a limb and say that if Crompton plays as well as he has in the last 5 quarters; meaning accurate throws no Ints, the Vols not only win but win big. Only hitch in that is special teams play. I can see Monte's D keeping Bama out of the red zone just like they did the Dawgs so if Vols don't give the game away on turnovers and special teams snafu's they'll win the game.

The "Vols" are one team, too. "Tide" in this context is not a plural noun or a singular one, it is a COLLECTIVE noun. "Tide are ranked" makes just as much grammatical sense as "Vols are ranked".

I had same thought but in many seasons the No. 1 team changes several times over the course of the season so the Tide could have been No. 1 at some point in a lot of seasons we played them, just not No. 1 the third week in October.

They were huge favorites in 1982 when we upset them in Knoxville. Think they were No.2 undefeated - probably 3 TD favorite that day.

The mid 60's 1967? unpset with Dorsey intercetion pic on cover of Sports Illustrated was a big one to. I had thought they were No. 1 then but guess not.

I think our defense can hold their offense if we can get any offensive production. The problem is getting offensive production.

If you watched the Bammer vs. USC game, you'd notice they played a very aggressive man-to-man scheme and challenged USC to establish the run, which they never did. For us to win, we'll have to establish the run and force Bammer to respect play-action, a difficult task with Cody there in the middle.

Another thing to watch out for is the zone blitz packages, which could cause trouble on the roll-out. The floods we called almost every passing play against Georgia will work against the fire zone if we can protect Crompton and he can remain composed.

I won't make a prediction on this, but I really hope we put together an offensive game plan that will keep the defense rested and put enough points on the board. Nothing would make this season better than giving Alabama its first loss, especially on the road.

Your post is logical but the game will be played on emotion. Alabama's offense is a one trick pony so we shall see if Monte makes them pay. Crompton will not have a repeat of the Georgia game but as long as he avoids turn overs UT will be in it to the end! FACT: SC is far worse than their record.

Are you referring to the SC defense that gave up 41 points to GA? Our defense only gave up 3 points to that same GA team. Odds are Bama wins this game because of their talent and depth advantage on both lines of scrimmage. It all comes down to TO's & special teams. If UT wins both those categories then they have a shot for the upset. If not, it could be ugly.

I can feel an upset coming! As long as we don't beat ourselves with turnovers, or poor ST play. We have nothing to really lose here, the pressure is on the Tide with their #1 ranking. The same people who don't think we have a chance, are some of the same critics who thought the Gators would beat us by 50 points. JC will need another big game.

That would be beautiful; first play a 75 post route to Moore for 6!!!Unfortunately though the first play will be hardesty off tackle for 2 yard gain
