KNOXVILLE -- Georgia and Alabama stacked in consecutive October games was supposed to give the Tennessee defense consecutive chances to stop an elite wide receiver.
But unlike Georgia's A.J. Green, Alabama's Julio Jones hasn't carried pass-catching momentum from a stellar freshman season.
As a run-blocker, receiving decoy and occasional punt return specialist, Jones has played a vital role in the top-ranked Crimson Tide's undefeated season. He has excelled in nearly every area except the one he was supposed to excel the most -- catching the football, moving the chains and putting points on the board.

Our defense will show up to play Saturday against Alabama. Including Eric Berry having a big day with a pick six. The question is which JC will show up? I'm gonna say Crompton has some confidence now. Vols in a close one 20-17.

The key to handling Jones is to "properly" introduce him to both Berry and Jackson early and often.
The key to the game itself will be our ability to stop Alabama's running game, and shut down Ingram. When they are forced into a passing situation, we have to bring pressure on their QB.
On offense, we need to keep the ball on sustained drives to give our defense a breather. We need to score some points, of course, but this will be a more defensive game which should not take all that many points to win. That means our special teams in the kicking game have to be vastly improved.
All of these things are easier said than done, but we have shown at various times during the season (especially the Georgia game) that we are capable of doing all of them. If we do so this week, we will win.
We do not have to be perfect in any of these areas, and we will not be perfect. But we need to be solid in all of these areas and each part of our game must do its part.

as long as big Dan and the boys keep bringing the heat on "McElwood" then were in good shape. Linebackers must be diciplined to plug the gaps and keep Ingram bottled and Berry and JJ must sit tight and shorten the screen. Do that and we have a shot.

This is a Bama game. In Bama! They are #1! Gee how much harder do you want it. Holding Jones could take dbl coverage, stopping Ingram could require two guys on every play. I am not sure but I think we are still only allowed 11 players on the field. It is going to be a hard hitting game and that is going to tell who the winner will be. Great players are going to get their yds, the key is to take it out of them when they do. The 4th qt is going to make the game for the winner. Believe it. Ingram and your D are stout. This may come down to the 4th quarter and whose Oline start exerting itself. Looks like if we key on Ingram and Jones, will be hard for Bama to move the ball.

What do you have to worry about? Not only beating TN (an unranked team) but beating TN by a lot of points so you can hopefully go ahead of FL in the BCS poll. You won't jump ahead of FL unless you put a lot of points on us so I say AL is the one feeling the pressure not an unranked team playing #1/#2 team.

Okay, the facts are this, Tennessee has to hope that Crompton remains outside of the twilight zone come "gametime", and that the special team's breakdowns stop. The defense just needs to look at the film and see that the x-factor for Alabama is that big punishing running game. The pressure that we put on McElroy can be offset quickly by Ingram running right by them. We have to be discipline in our tackling whoever has the ball! Hit Ingram and hit McElroy! Easier said than done IF we don't keep our focus, but this defense has'nt shown NO reason to think they are not CAPABLE. Not that Jones isn't a very good receiver, but he just hasn't gotten the rock delivered to him as often. SACK MCELROY, and INGRAM most of the time and VOLS WILL WIN! All we can do is anticipate what Crompton will be seeing and doing come gametime.......? Hopefully not the Twilight Zone....... GO BIGGG ORRRAAANNNNGGGE!!!!!!!!!!!!
