In this Oct. 10, 2009, file photo, Alabama kicker Leigh Tiffin (99) kicks a first quarter field goal during their NCAA college football game against Mississippi in Oxford, Miss. Alabama coach Nick Saban says his kickers won't use tape to spot field goals and extra points. South Carolina Steve Spurrier pointed out Leigh Tiffin's use of the white tape to spot his kicks in last week's game and reported it to the Southeastern Conference. Saban says he didn't know Tiffin was using the tape and says it isn't worth risking a 5-yard penalty.

Hey, it wouldn't be Bama Week without a link roundup and here we have it, complete with controversy over orange jerseys, tapegate (thanks to the Old Ball Coach) and (what's new) Kiffin quotes.

And to think, some people believe the game is only played on the field on Saturdays.

Enjoy! And if you've seen a link we should have, drop us an email at lailj@knoxnews.com.

Ever been on 55? The Korean War Memorial Highway? It has as many potholes as Bama has NCAA violations.

No, and I have been looking. I haven't really been able to wrap my head around the purpose of using the tape unless the kicker is just a big simpleton like Tebow.

if a paved road has as many cracks as Bama has NCAA violations, at that point you have to start calling it a gravel road.

The best thing to come out of Alabama is the Tennessee River, and it doesn't come out as cleanly as it goes in...nasty Bammers!

You people really enjoy yourselves and your crack comments. Read down where Summit has reported a secondary violation yesterday. Oh, that's different, isn't it. You are hypocrites. See ya at Bryant-Denny Saturday! See if you can find something to gripe about and justify your performance by blaming Bama.

And, we'll find Neyland next year going north until we smell it and east until we step in it.

two things you aren't considering..but it's probably because you behave like a PMSing 13 year old girl.

1.) Pat Summitt's SELF-REPORTED SECONDARY VIOLATION was a third party taking a picture of Pat with a prospect, and without contacting compliance, posting that picture in a San Antonio Newspaper. Your NOT SELF-REPORTED MAJOR VIOLATIONS were within your realm of control, but you did NOTHING. Someone had to turn you in, and three people did. You only found out who one of them was.

2.) You are on a University of Tennessee board... I know you think Alabama is God's gift to humanity, but it's not. If you want to see happy things said about Alabama, stick to Alabama websites, and don't click on any stories that have the letters NCAA in them.

Wrong again Joe. That's how us metro-Atlantans find Athens. You Bama folks are just too easy. Even if Bama beats UT by a hundred we still wouldn't trade places with you...You're just a crimson turd and that's plain nasty. I feel dirtier for just interacting with you on the internet.

Redtitan4 you should not have tried to help these morons. They are ignorant Tennessee fans & will have a long ride home after Bama is finished stomping the hound sh*t out of their beloved volunteers.

After Saturday , Eric Berry will be going through the motions waiting on his pro contract. This will be the game that makes the Vol fans realize the orange kool aid they have been drinking since the Georgia game is Al Davis piss.

Yes, saw it several times on ESPN and even WPTV had it on. What it is: the holder marks a "spot that the kicker is mentally focusing on the ground. If you pay attention, you'll see all holders do this. Most just put their hand w/finger on exact spot. This spot is where the kicker gets a mental pic of exactly how and where contact of foot and ball meet. The tape helps in two ways. First, if the holder puts it down rather quickly, then the kicker can get that mental pic and can adjust quicker and also can see the spot better. Doubly, the spotter, as sometimes when he looks up to recieve the ball, he doesn't set the ball 1-2-3 inches off spot, instead sets on same spot that kicker is looking to kick. Notice that the kicker has to almost be in motion before the ball gets to the holder. It makes percentage go up as the kicker always knows the exact "spot" the ball will be in. Hope this helps, about the best I could come up with.
GO VOLS!!! BEAT BAMA!!

Ok, O tell me wise ones. Last week I did good, I bet South Carolina to cover the spread against Alabama they made my ulcer bleed a little but came through. 10. 1978 – Record 11-1-0: Selectors – All but UPI, Sporting News.

Commentary – USC went 11-1 in 1978, and was chosen by the UPI and Sporting News. Alabama’s one loss? To USC, in Birmingham, on September 23! USC, however, lost to less highly regarded Arizona State. This is a difficult year to sort out, as Alabama had “the better loss”, but they lost to the other claimant.

Conclusion: Somewhat solid, or as solid as any modern “split” title ever is.

11. 1979 – Record 12-0-0: Selectors – Virtually All

Commentary – The undefeated Crimson Tide of 1979 were probably the nation’s best team.

Conclusion: Very solid.

12. 1992 – Record 13-0-0: Selectors – Virtually All

Commentary – Stallings undefeated team routed Miami 34-13 in the Sugar Bowl.

Conclusion: Very solid – the best claim Alabama has.

Tennessee had a fleeting moment of glory in 1979 when it led 17-0 at one point and 17-7 at the half, but Bryant's half time speech ("Men, we've got Tennessee right where we want them!") hit its mark, and Alabama went on to win not only that game by a score of 27-17, but every game of that season on its way to a second consecutive national championship.
