Fans can get look at Heisman Trophy

Tennessee's best chance to win the Heisman Trophy this season is likely out of the race.

But UT fans can still get a glimpse of the famous bronze stiff-arm this weekend.

The trophy awarded to the nation's top player will arrive by boat to Calhoun's On the River on Saturday at noon as part of its tour of the Southeast and part of pregame festivities before the Vols play No. 21 South Carolina (TV: ESPN, 7:45 p.m.)

UT safety Eric Berry has been mentioned as a dark horse candidate for the award throughout the season, but he likely would need several big performances down the stretch to earn enough consideration to get a closer look at the trophy at the end of the season.

Certainly it wouldn't hurt his chances if he turned one in on national television with the Heisman already in town.

Eric Berry will win the greatest award in college football when he accepts the uniform of a pro team that has #1 written on it.I hope all Vol fans realize that this Heisman Trophy turned into a joke many times over the last few decades, but it lost all credibility when it did not go to our own beloved Peyton Manning.I vote "Who Cares" when it comes to Heisman talk, they gave Johnny Majors the shaft on it,then Peyton Manning got the shaft and I smell something rotten about the award myself, hope you guys do also!

Too bad it's mainly sportwriters who choose this award...and they will only vote for the guy who has the ball in their hands on offense the majority of the time. When you look at value to a team and overall ability, who is better than Eric Berry? As mentioned above, fortunately Eric will go on to NFL fame and be able to take care of himself and his family for at least a few generations. Again, Eric...please make sure your kid brothers head north to Knoxville!

I would love to see things from you point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my azz!

GO VOLS!

It is called the Heistman trophy after the ESPN Woodson campaign. They ran a full-fledged ABP (Anybody But Peyton)campaign and they (ESPN) won it for Woodson!

BTW, check the stats we had a defensive player that had better stats in each category over Woodson, but did not get any attention! I believe his name was Terry Fair?

JWilly writes:

I don't give a flying dee-diddley tinker's d****about the heisman trophy. Peyton was the 2nd rated college qb of all time. Woodson was a cb in a run league. He had two good games on natl. TV and absolutely nothing else. There was not a single semi-decent passing team in the Big Ten at that time. It was the ESPN trophy and not one iota more than that. The heisman means nothing.

Screw the Heisman.

What National Championship did Paul Hornung's Notre Dame team win with a record of 2-8? The Heisman winner does not have to be a captain of the National Championship team.

Spoken like a true towel manager. The only thing we can't get over is your momma. So stop coming on here and trying to make jokes, because the real one is in your pants! You are pathetic, you suck a lot of ESPN don't you?

Manning was the great choke artist !

Yep...he's probably still choking on that Super Bowl Champion ring, as we speak. Or on that '97 SEC Champ ring. Or on all those UT, SEC, and NCAA records he set while playing for UT. Or he could be choking on that NFL single season TD passes record. And he might as well be preparing himself to choke on being inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame as the most prolific QB in NFL history.
...

Yeah, RobE...put that in your pipe and choke it. I mean, smoke it don't choke it. I mean, why are you so mean?

And remember, RobE...some people's trash is other people's treasure! But your trash on this board is not treasure. It is not treasure-like...or treasured. So maybe you should try to be a better person...more like Peyton!

USMCVOL4LIF writes:

The Heisman is a joke. We all know it's pretty much based on offensive statistics and your team & record weigh into it as well. IMO, it should be the best player period! I agree most years it probably should go to an offensive player. But in years like this, when its not clear, why shouldnt a defensive player deserve a serious look?

Hope your trophy case looks better than that out dated stadium. Swamp...what a stupid name.

Caverunner,I agree with you that Shuler was the man and a great college Q.B. who never got to show his talents in the NFL because of an injury;could you or someone remind me who got the stupid, worthless, joke of a trophy called the heisman that year?
