Tennessee will host nine official visitors this weekend for the South Carolina game.
The following players are scheduled to be in town:
n Ken Adams: The Vols aren't stopping at seven committed defensive linemen. Adams, a 6-foot-5, 240-pound defensive end from Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson, Miss., is also considering Auburn.
n Demar Dorsey: A Florida commitment for more than a year, the 6-1, 175-pound defensive back is from Boyd Anderson High in Lauderdale Lakes, Fla. He is also considering Alabama and West Virginia.
n Chris Dunkley: UT freshman receiver Nu'Keese Richardson should help the Vols with Dunkley, a 5-10, 165-pound receiver. The two were teammates at Pahokee (Fla.) High. Dunkley is also considering Georgia, LSU, Miami, Southern California and Alabama.
n Christian Jones: At 6-4 and 220 pounds, Jones has the frame to excel in college. The linebacker from Lake Howell in Winter Park, Fla., is considering several schools. He has official visits scheduled to Notre Dame and Southern California. The Florida schools are also worth watching.
n Ted Meline: A bit of a surprise commitment in September, the 6-2, 170-pound receiver from North Miami (Fla.) High will be making his first trip to Knoxville this weekend.
n Dequan Menzie: Another prospect from Copiah-Lincoln Community College, the 5-11, 200-pound cornerback is also considering Alabama and Southern Miss, both of which have reportedly offered.
n Corey Miller: One of two defensive ends from Byrnes High in Duncan, S.C., to commit to UT in September, Miller and Brandon Willis are considered two of the top defensive end prospects in the nation.
Terrence Mitchell: The Vols will try to dip into Florida again for Mitchell, a 5-10, 165-pound cornerback from Hillsborough High in Tampa. Florida State, Georgia, North Carolina and South Florida are also in the mix.
n Brandon Willis: The 6-4, 250-pound defensive end from Byrnes committed to UT in September along with Miller despite a strong push by Florida State to land the duo.

A dominating win on Saturday will go a long way in the eyes of the recruits that haven't committed. Hopefully Miller and Willis can help recruit some of the undecided kids. A lively crowd and a nationally televised game on Saturday night shouldn't hurt either.

FYI - Ken Adams is being recruited as a TE, not DE.

I wouldn't say 6'4 is huge. I mean most NFL LBs are 6'2 or 6'3. I just hope we sign them I can live with them being an inch taller than what some people consider to be LB height. Better oversized than undersized just ask Rolando McClain 6'4 260.

Give a BIG ORANGE welcome to Christian Jones. He is a friend and classmate of my son. Besides excellence on the field, Christian is a good kid, and a no-nonsense student with a rock solid 3.6 gpa or better. He has offers from FSU and Auburn. His father played at FSU and for the Raiders.

I just found this on Rivals. Gotta love it...especially the last line:
My sleeper here is Tennessee. Last season, the Vols proved rather quickly they are a coaching staff to be reckoned with in recruiting after they came out of nowhere to land running back Bryce Brown and wide receivers Nu'Keese Richardson and Marsalis Teague.
The Volunteers are currently in striking distance of the top spot, and all of a sudden find themselves near the top with such prospects as linebacker Luc and offensive tackles and Jawuan James and Chaz Green. They are also working blue-chip recruits like wide receiver Dunkley, running backs Michael Dyer and Seastrunk, linebacker Jones, cornerbacks Terrence Mitchell and Menzie. Then, you have to worry about some committed prospects that Lane Kiffin and his staff will put the full-court press on like quarterback Jesse Scroggins, offensive lineman Shon Coleman, linebacker LaDarius Owens and safety Matt Elam.
Really, there's no prospect you can sleep on with Tennessee. This staff is that good. They are relentless.

I know the cliche, the next game is always the most important, but it rings very true this weekend.
3-5 vs 4-4 and the visiting prospects make this one of the most important games of 2009.
We win this one and we're on our way to 8-4 and landing the #1 class for 2010.

Pulling a recruit away from their home state can be very difficult;especially when it's Fla; Ga; Bama; Texas or Cal. We've already got 3 or more from Fla. which is something Fulmer never did..Stealing Luc from the gators would be HUGE; same goes for Dunkley (he doesn't play like he's 5'10" at all)..This D Line class is killer; combined they might be the best group in the nation; By the way Palardy's kicks are so high they look like f**kin rainbows

That is certainly a bummer, but it's still a long time until Signing Day. Teague flip-flopped last year, Vols-Gators-Vols, Oku did some wavering as well. Cobbs is off the hook right now, but he's still in the pond.

Kirk Herbstriet was heard on a Charlotte radio station giving UT major props this week. He felt UT was a school with major stock on the rise. He felt once this team got a QB and WR's along with the Defense it would be something to deal with. Also, the way Kiffin relates to the 18-22 yr old has him as a Coach players want to come play for.
GahLee writes:
Cobbs has indeed jumped ship, apparently the staff cooled on him, no contact make DeMarco a very unhappy boy.
This means one thing, Tennessee gets someone better, Dunkley?
mytrifecta writes:
The real and original "UT" is on the rise again! Get on the train while you can fella's. I've been to most all major football venues and it doesn't get better than what Knoxville has to offer.
keepitreal4vols writes:
If our RB's have success pounding the rock on the ground, Crompton's deep balls will penetrate the weak GCock defense, Maybe Kiffin will let Nuke sling a few balls down SC's throat too. But one thing is certain, the GCocks will play hard and our O-Line needs to give Crompton plenty of protection and eliminate any penetration from the GCocks front 4.
Give these recruits a great atmosphere and reel em in to Big Orange Country. Lets have some fun on Halloween and beat the GCocks!!!

Goin home sick, The article was titled that Jeffries would miss UT game but Spurrier was not quoted as saying such! Just hope he returns soon! So I would not count him out since it was just an illness that sent him home on wednesday. Seems unlikely that an illness would hold him out of a game 4 days later! Especially since SC is 6-2 and still has an outside shot at the East title.
ETSU_Vol writes:
well hopefully the staff is tying the knot with someone better than cobbs. we already have several good commits anyway at that position, maybe they needed a scholly for another qb? just a thought. they cooled off him for some reason. i guess being a shorter reciever at 6'1" you should be fairly fast, and running almost a 4.8 40 doesnt bode to well for you. hopefully we get dunkley, and can keep milton and ambles at least because we need tall recievers on the outside for kiffins system and the speedster in the slot

Too bad; he seemed pretty solid at the time. I'm DEFINITELY not going the "sour-grapes" route on the guy. When UT is in on as many guys as we seem to be, we can expect this. As I and many others have said, nothing is settled with ANY of these guys until they sign the papers. We will win some and lose some, but I'm pretty sure we will wind up with a good group when all is said and done.
VolAlum2003 (Inactive) writes:
I'm going to be "that guy" and predict that UT does not pull a top 5 (and maybe not even a top 10) recruiting class this year. I am a TOTAL CLK supporter and I think we have the best support staff in the country, but while Kiffin has definitely brought UT some name recognition, I don't think that it is currently enough to convince many five star recruits from TX, FL, or CA to make the long trek out to East TN. Kiffin & Co. are going to have to start winning championships and beating UF and Bama before we start really being able to pull recruits out of those three states.
I think the fact that Kiffin sees Georgia as his main source of recruiting talent just speaks to his ability to accurately and realistically calculate where his chances are (right NOW) of recruiting the best talent. There's no doubt that if Kiffin wins an SEC championship next year that things will quickly turn around...but I would caution patience. Of course, the obvious question is: How did UT pull a top 10 class last year? Well, two reasons: 1) Kiffin used early playing time to lure recruits and 2) there was a novelty and newness surrounding the program. After we lost to UCLA, I think a lot of the novelty wore off. Kiffin now has to put a whole lot of "W"s in the results column before we can convince kids like Cobbs to quit their "dream" school and play for UT. It won't be easy, but I have total faith that it will happen. GO VOLS!!

Very well thought out post. UT can't afford to miss on the 3 star and 4 star players right now. Our coaches will have to prove it on the field to turn guys away from UF,Texas and USC. I expect it to happen. I feel like I am seeing it right now but its going to take competing for SEC and National titles to convince some recruits to make the long trek to Tennessee. One caveat though is with the Big Ten slipping, UT is the closest school to the fertile grounds of Ohio, PA, and Michigan. Would love to see UT rack up with some of those big northern guys.
PS I don't count KY as an SEC threat when it comes to football.

Your unfounded bitterness is showing again. There is a link to a story about Cobbs' decommittal in the Tulsa World newspaper. It didn't say anything like what you are saying and they have no incentive to cover it up if that WAS the real story. If it is true that "every applicable site in America" is telling it like you are, then give us a link. You ought to know that you don't have nearly enough credibility on here so that we would take your unsupported word.

Considering that we still have four conference games yet to play and should win all of them, we're not too worried about where we are right now. As for our record, it IS a shame we didn't beat Auburn, but our other two losses were by a total of 12 points to the two top teams in the country at their places. After you beat UGA, that will put us 2d in the East, which wouldn't be too bad after last year. It ain't over til it's over, dude. That goes for your 3d NC, too.
