The gimmick worked.
Tennessee came out in black uniforms. Then the Vols started pounding No. 21 South Carolina into darkness.
The UT defense forced two quick fumbles, the offense converted them into a couple touchdowns and at the end of the first quarter it had a 14-0 lead and a less-than-capacity crowd at Neyland Stadium in a frenzy.
Janzen Jackson and Rico McCoy each forced fumbles in the rain, Jonathan Crompton found a wide-open Austin Johnson for a score and Montario Hardesty pounded in another in a well-rounded 15 minutes.

Hope the offence startes clicking on all cylinders in the second half. If so UT will have one of the best 4-4 team in the country.

Who is in charge at UT? Hamilton or Kiffin? On July 7 Hamilton made the following comment to the Associated Press regarding UT wearing a black uniform: "Tennessee fan blogs have been buzzing about the possibility of the Vols playing in black jerseys this fall. Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton indicated that such a drastic change from the Vols’ traditional orange jerseys isn’t likely. Hamilton wouldn’t say no to black jerseys, though he did say Tuesday that he doesn’t foresee Tennessee in black “anytime in the near or distant future.” He also says the uniforms are ordered at least a year in advance of the season in which they will be worn, ruling out any changes made by coach Lane Kiffin to the 2009 season. Hamilton says minor uniform decisions are made by the coach and equipment managers, but he’s included in major decisions."
Well, why was Tennessee tradition trashed in tonight’s game. I can not believe that Kiffin has succeeded is turning the Vols into a substitute Oakland Raider team. A very sorry day for UT tradition indeed. Long live the UT Volunteer Raiders football team. May the UT football tradition rest in peace.
