The Tennessee Lady Vols lost a soccer match in tough fashion Friday night.
In the process, they put themselves in a tough position for the upcoming SEC tournament.
A 2-1 loss to Georgia at UGA Soccer Stadium in Athens, Ga., left Tennessee (8-8-3, 4-5-2 SEC) as the eighth seed for the conference tournament next week in Orange Beach, Ala. The Lady Vols will open play at 6 p.m. Wednesday against top-seed Florida.
A goal by Alex Hooker turned out to be the difference for Georgia (14-4-1, 7-4). Her goal came just 46 seconds after Lady Vols freshman Jayden Barrett had scored in the 70th minute. It was Barrett's third goal. Freshman Amy Harrison, earned an assist.
In the final minute, a Harrison shot was touched off the right goal post by Georgia keeper Michelle Betos.
"Games like this come down to execution and our discipline in the attacking third,'' UT coach Angela Kelly said. "We discussed this with our team after the match. Now we've put ourselves in a position where we have to go down to Orange Beach for the SEC tournament, put our best foot forward and win some matches."
