KNOXVILLE -- There were times when moral victories may have sufficed for this Tennessee football team.

Those times are gone.

The Volunteers will host South Carolina in a Southeastern Conference game tonight, and the 21st-ranked Gamecocks (6-2, 3-2) are far from a gimme.

But South Carolina is not undefeated, top-ranked Florida. It is not unbeaten, second-ranked Alabama.

Much glee was had last year that Fulmer was fired after losing to Spurrier. Spurrier owns Fulmer, ad nauseum.

In 2009, it's time to return to reality.
TENNESSEE OWNS SOUTH CAROLINA.

I believe that TENNESSEE returns the favor by a) crushing South Carolina today and b) nailing the coffin shut on Spurrier's coaching career.

Too bad KNS doesn't have writers like chattanoga..I talked to a former NFL player this week about game hangover and he said the same thing...Once preparation starts for the next opponent the game is forgotten..

Possible, I don't know if there is a steadfast rule either way. Do you remember a few years ago when Tn beat Fl and played, I think it was Miss St. for Conf championship and a possible shot at another NC and came out flat, and lost.
Last week Ar laid an egg against Ole Miss after being robbed in the swamp. I think it may be possible that such emotion expended can effect the way a team will play. Sometimes.........
The coaching staff at UT may, and I say may, have some thought on this.

If UT is going to be bowl eligible it must start tonight. UT has show the NCAA world they should be taken serious again. Now we need to keep that going with a victory over a ranked team on nat. TV! GO VOlS!

You meant LSU....one of the worst downbeats ever....and our D lost that one....all Mauck did was QB sneak...and the Chief couldn't adjust....sort of the story of the whole previous coaching staff....in Peyton's senior year against Nebraska I was watching at a sports bar here in Dallas and a fellow Vol fan told me at halftime...."watch this...Osborne will make adjustments this half and our side won't" We won a championship under Coach Phil but we were constantly outcoached
