White outs and black outs are overdone. An orange out will be about the same. Let's do the checkerboard again. That was probably one of the coolest thing I've seen at a basketball game. Why not make it happen in large scale in Neyland??

Shouldn't every home game be an "orange" out? It's embarrasing to even have a promotion like this.

Do you think Nebraska has to do a promotion for a "Red" out?

I agree. Checkerboarding every section in Neyland should be the new trend for the new era.
We made it boys! The season is finally here.
GBO!

couldn't agree more. Do something nobody else will ever attempt to do. Besides, couldn't we get some stimulus money to pay for the tshirts?

will someone please tell mike we're playing western kentucky and its a noon kickoff?

there will always be enough orange. i am all for promoting but this is stale

I don't see why not. They're throwing money everywhere else haha. But seriously, just add $5-10 to the ticket price and have plain white/orange shirts with every seat. It WOULDN'T be hard, and it WOULD be awesome.

I agree with this and the checkerboard idea. Why not wait for a "promotion" like this for next week when we are HELLO! on national TV against UCLA?

Pretty much what I thought, too! On TV especially Neyland Stadium already looks like "a sea of orange". Guess a little more can't hurt, though(;-P)!

The big reason is that they would probably never get a sponsor for that many tee shirts. It was a miracle they got sponsors for 20,000 shirts for T-B Arena. However, I do have an idea for getting sponsors for that.... Instead of having someone sponsor 100,000 shirts.... have them sponsor a block of seats, and sell the sponsor according to who is most likely to sit in them. Student sections could be sponsored by places like Cool Beans, Sunspot.... basically hangouts on campus. The alumni section could be sponsored by Long's Drug Store or the S & S Cafeteria. For the non-season ticket holder seats, we could use a bank of some sort... position it to businesses as a chance to get name exposure to the right type of audience, and attach themselves to UT football.

That is a good Idea. It would look good too. Make it at both ends of the field also.

Gooooo Vols!

I agree the checkerboard would be awesome, but I think the "orange out" will be cool. There are quite a few people that wear white, grey or black Tennessee shirts so maybe now they will wear orange. My husband had planned on wearing his black golf shirt with orange T but is now going to wear an orange shirt. I hope everyone will wear orange!

this is one of the dumbest ideas ever! what in the world is an orange out? at least a white out and black out make scenes.

Mike Hamilton is an idiot for calling for an "orange out" against Western Kentucky. Why not UCLA? The "color" out promotion stuff that everyone is doing now is lame. I agree with DrVol that a checkerboard would be cool, or even Power T's in the endzones, but an orange out??? Come on Mike, be original. Personally, I would pay $5 extra per ticket if they had a t-shirt waiting for me to do the checkerboard.

If UT really wants to sell 100,000 of these pretty boring 15 dollar shirts...First off they shouldn't try the gimmick at a 12:21 kickoff against WKU. Second off, they should somehow swing a deal out with John Ward (who's been sponsoring the thing like crazy, go to wbir.com and search videos) that says if 100,000 of these things are sold, John Ward will call the game.

Win-win

Another ignorant rant by Dumbman. Why is he so childish and idiotic. Dumbman grow up already. Anyway, I always wear an orange shirt or jacket at the games, but, sometimes I will wear either a black or white hat. I guess from now on I'll wear the orange hats. GO VOLS!!!

drvol writes:

For the people who don't understand our complaints, let me explain. We are not bashing the orange out idea in a display of dislike towards Mike Hamilton, rebellion, or as a way to show a lack of support for the team. If I was available to go this weekend, I'd gladly wear some orange. However, the problem is that these color out promotions are getting old fast. It was pretty awesome when Louisville did it against WVU back a few years ago. When the Miami Heat did a white out because they were "white hot" in their championship run, that was pretty sweet. But an orange out? Are we saying we're Orange Bowl bound? There needs to be some meaning behind these things, some unifying purpose. When Louisville did it, it was "Black Thursday". Yes, it's our team color. Thanks for pointing that out. But all Hamilton has said is wear orange. That's literally it.

So, what we "complainers" are proposing is if there isn't a unifying cry behind it, add some flavor to it. I like the idea of getting the fans more into it. After all that IS the purpose of a color out. But bring some life to the idea. A checkerboard, a power-T. Something original. Spell "Rocky Top" in the middle of a sea of orange for all I care (I like this idea the more I think about it). Just make it different.

I got my "It's Time" T-shirt yesterday when I was at the Walgreens on Cumberland. (They still have a whole lot of them-- mostly XLs, but some XXLs and other sizes, too-- but I wouldn't be surprised if they sell out on Saturday.)
I am PSYCHED about this football season starting!

The result of the "checkerboard" game stank, though.
I still have my white shirt from that one, but since the Vols lost the game, the T-shirt isn't going to be framed or anything.

Hamilton would be more upset about not getting advertising revenue than he would be about the color.

TO COACH KIFFIN:
You're in Big Orange Country, not Big White Country (although that CAN be taken 2 ways)..

WEAR ORANGE shirts, not white!

Sometimes, wear orange shirts with a white T, not white shirts with an orange T.

Orange comes first in "Orange and White."

Anybody else notice he's not wearing the Big Orange on clothing at all, other than the T?
