Willingham picked up, Colquitt let go

Former Vols were coming and going Tuesday as NFL roster action began to heat up.

Defensive back DeAngelo Willingham, who was let go by Tampa Bay after the third preseason game, was picked up by Dallas to shore up an injury-depleted rookie class.

Punter Britton Colquitt, originally signed as a free agent by Denver, was among four players released by the Broncos.

Teams must cut their 75-man rosters to 53 by Saturday.

He (Colquitt) had an avg of 52 and placed two inside the 5 on Monday...both of which were better than the starter. He's actually out performed the starter in Denver...someone will pick him up.

Who knows what will happen, but Arian Foster looked solid for the Texans last night against the Vikings. Totally stuffed a blitzing linebacker, and had two very solid 5-7 yard runs. I know, a favorite punching bag for a lot of folks on this forum due to some untimely fumbles. Like the rest of the '08 team, I think his lack of success was largely due to some inept offensive coaching. I'd still like to see him do well, along with any other former Vol in the NFL.

Foster may have a hard time because Texas has barely used him at all in the preseason. He hasn't been able to show much. Britton will surely be picked up. Kicking in Denver air does make you look a little bit better though.

I was also thinking of some potential kind of additional commercial work with Coors and Coors Light similar to what Britton had here with Cherokee Distributing in Knoxville. Well he can play soccer now, anyone know when the game is on? zzzzzzz

I am in Houston and went to a couple of practices for the Texans and he wasn't even dressed out for practices. I don't think he is going to make the squad.

I saw one of those that got downed inside the 5. Very pretty punt! I agree, someone will pick this guy up.

I agree with your assessment. Foster has tools the pros like, he is a tough inside runner, has very good hands, and blocks.

5 to 7 yard runs are above average in the NFL.

The key for Arian is staying healthy and holding the football.

hahahaha that's funny. to all of you out there w/o a sense of humor, the dude brought it on himself. it's not like it only happened once. happened three times (i think four, actually) and even after he was a DARE speaker at local schools. i have no problem w/ laughing at a joke like this considering. plus, i knew him in school and i'll just leave it at that. try to laugh a lil bit. makes life more fun.

Hang time is almost unaffected by the altitude-it is a subtle affect and urban legend. Temperature is much more a factor to a kicker. Ball placement has absolutely nothing to do with altitude. A punter can mostly only control a ball by directional kicking it out of bounds. When a punter runs off the field celebrating when a punt rolls to inside the five, it is mostly luck and the fate of the bounce. It is either going to roll into the endzone or not-its not like they can do it on purpose.

Good post... assuming of course that your info is accurate.

I fail to see how this is defamatory and abusive. I know lots of people that have gone through the unfortunate experience of losing a job during this economy. Many have picked up a bartending gig in order to pay the mounting bills and family obligations, therefore to suggest that this is somehow "less" than Britton is an insult to all of those who have had to go this route. You should think your comments out first before writing....like I obviously have.

Go Vols!

I agree. I cheer for the ones in the NFL and in the case of Travis Henry and Donte Stallworth, I pray for them to turn their lives around. Once a VOL always a VOL!

You have replied 5 times since joining, 2 of which were removed by staff, and the other 3 you continue to call people an idiot, 1 of which is the same single word response as here.

This would anwser any questions I had about you. Come back when you are able to construct a worthy response and gain a sense of humor.

I honestly thought he earned himself a job on Monday night. Guess not. Those two inside the five were perfect. Who knows what goes through McDaniels head! I think it's mostly "what would Bill (Belichick) do?"

I could almost call you clueless in columbus ,but I won't. The young man had a major problem with alcohol while a vol. So the poor poster was trying to be cutesy about being bartender. Comprendhe?(sp) NOW maybe you understand why I see it as abusive/defamatory. Just in case I haven't made my point,it was not the suggested job that irritated me . It was because of his poor history with alcohol.Nuff said and I hope you caught the point you missed when I replied to the poor post.

You sound like a punter like myself. I agree with you totally, but after all the kicking camps I went to, NFL punters mostly agree with the fact that hitting a spiral and promptly making good contact is enough to be concerned about. I don't care how consistent one can kick it, you can't control consistently enough how its going to bounce. You can hit a perfect spiral and it might not necessarily turn over nose down that digs like you describe. This is why I have never been a fan of the pooch kick-I consider it a wasted opportunity. At camps good punters could coffin corner out of bounds inside the 10 typically 7 out of 10 times simply by aiming at a cone. You do not change technique but simply the direction you step and kick. A pooch punt is kicking it less effort than you would, normally dismissing technique and letting the chips fall where they fall. Sometimes kickers will do this and get some success out of it and run off the field pumping their fist as if this is exactly as they planned and it makes me laugh. Nothing disgusts me more than a punt rolling into the endzone. It is so easy to keep a ball inside the 20 if you directional kick. So I say go ball go too, except aim the thing for Vol's sake out of bounds! (By the way the actual breakdown of a punt trajectory and results has been broken down before in a thesis written by Bill Renner , a former punter for the Green Bay Packers, and an instructor at some of the best kicking camps in the country.
