WE NEED TO RECRUIT PHILLIP SIMS AND MICHAEL DYER. PHILLIP IS THE PERFECT QB FOR US. WE CAN EASILY STEEL HOM FROM BAMA. HES THE #1 QB IN THE NATION! PERFECT FOR US! MICHAEL DYER IS A BEAST! SOMEBODY NEEDS TO GET IN BERRYS HEAD! HE PKAYED TERRIBLE! GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Forget Sims at QB, I want Tyler Bray, he was at the Elite 11 with Sims among the 9 other top QBs in the nation and won the accuracy award and was 2nd palce MVP to Jake Heaps.
6'6" 200 pounds and extremely accurate, THAT is perfect for this offense.
Let's get this out of the way first. PDummy...one post would be enough from you about sims. I've read that same post on about 6 threads since the game ended. I believe your key is stuck on "stupid". Give it a rest.
Now, the biggest surprise for me. That would have to be pregame. As in espn college gameday. Thanks for previewing our game with wku but you'd think with the many einsteins at espn, they'd know that Tennessee is spelled as I just typed it, not "tennesse". Come to think of it, I'm really not that surprised.
The difference that counts between a SEC team and a weaker conference is the defensive line and the offensive line. If one was to analyze the game in micro detail, this would be obvious. If UT had swapped running backs, wide receivers, and special teams, the score would still have been about the same. A national championship college team always has a bunch of linemen wind up in the pros. For example, take the best player from Memphis and put him on Florida's team, and he probably makes All American. The line separates the BIGS from the ALSO RUNS.
The only really disappointing throw JC made after the 1st qtr. was when he threw behind a wide open Kevin Cooper in the 2nd qtr---and Cooper was flat out flying---reminded me of the 90s UT receivers. Now, if JC can put a frozen rope out in front of that kind of speed, we may have something!
Kiffin and the Vols delivered almost exactly as they promised. (However, the 1st 10 minutes looked awfully familiar and brought back nightmares of '08!) Total dedication, a fantastic attitude, game focus, and slobberknocking Tennessee football. Also as promised, the best players played regardless of seniority. How refreshing!
I agree with the above poster about the hit Bryce made on the guy after the first interception, that was vicious! Also I was surprised by the "touch" on Crompton's passes as he made several anticipatory throws before the receiver was even close to the play and those are the types of passes that are impossible to defend! V, B.
I was surprised that there were no lineups from the KNS. I've been going to games since the late 60s fondly remember my dad sending me with a quarter to buy a lineup. Then they were free. I guess since the KNS couldn't give 'em away, they aren't even selling 'em near the stadium.
I definitely wholeheartedly agree----once he settled in JC was in the zone---it was a great day---reminded me a bit of TM's day against South Carolina in '98. I was thrilled with JC's accuracy, his command of the offense, his composure (picking up a fumbled snap and completing a pass---Casey Clausen never did that)---JC has the whole package working Saturday and I don't care one bit that it was against Western KY---nobody cared that when TM set the all time NCAA single game pass completion record in '98 that USC was an SEC doormat---a great game is a great game, and only a focused, composed, and well-prepared QB can go 21-28 in a FBS game against anyone! I was not disparaging JC's effort at all---quite the contrary---I was only pointing out that there were very few disappointing moments---what a difference from last year! And to all those who say "Yeah----but it was Western KY", what short memories you have!!! Wyoming, Auburn, Northern Illinois (which I count as a loss---should've won that game 63-7)----too many games we should have dominated that we ended up losing or nearly losing, and too many one-hopper passes, misread routes, confused & ill-conceived plans---the Western KY game is a cause for celebration.
UT has not played that focused and that disciplined since the opener vs. Cal in '06. That turned out to be a flash in the pan----I don't see that happening with this team. After the Cal game the coaches spent a week acting like they had just won a bowl game and there was no next Saturday to prepare for....and then Air Force flew into K'ville....

Someone wrote early on disagreeing with the coaches chewing on Bryce Brown for running out of bounds and saying the only benefit would have been psychological. While I respect your opinion, I must point out that by making that statement you are certainly diminishing the psychological aspect of any sports, especially strategically. I know you have to weigh the risk/benefit aspect, however, you must also weigh that against the probabilities as well. And in this case I think the probability of an injury by continuing the run as they expect, would have been low.
As to my biggest surprise, how about "all of the above" as a selection? I was so excited and enjoyed this game more than I have in years. This is the way Tennessee football used to be! Can't wait for more! I selected "63 points" as my biggest surprise. I was hoping Kiffen and team would run it up high to send a statement and set a precedent, and by gosh, they did! It's been a long time waiting and look at all the other good and big teams - they do it when they can too! GO VOLS! Great game and effort all around! And good to see them having so much fun!
LOL...guess you could have taken that the wrong way, but I thought your response to the poster stating that someone needs to get in Berry's head was spot on.

Pdiddy is really Phillip Sims begging for a chance to play for the VOLS. He post this on every comment so far!
I was looking for the ALL OF THE ABOVE in the poll above. I hoped for 63 point win but was not sure. I was more surprised of how our fans bailed out in the 3rd quarter! I was enjoying every minute of the game and looking to get a glimpse of Layla at the end. I am afraid some of our fans will get complacent and leave at or shortly after the half is over. I hope I am wrong. Monterio was the 3rd highest rated RB on the ESPN site. Bring on UCLA and let's take a bit of revenge out on them for last year!! Our defense was a real ORANGE SWARM!

Gotta say, I too was a bit disappointed that 1) the first game of the CLK era wasn't a sell-out and 2) that the crowd DID seem to thin out a bit early. I know it was a little warm, but, come ON, people! The funny thing about it is that a few years from now, after UT has won its first national championship under CLK, there will be about 300,000 people who will say they were there right from the beginning of the UT resurgence(;-P)!

I dont think so...tyler bray will be everything sims wants to be and better plus he is an excellent student in the classroom which translates over to the field! We dont need an idiot like sims running our offense
I think the most pleasant development was the lack of indecision on both offense and defense. Substitutions were quicly made, no delay of game penalties, no timeouts for not getting the play in on time.
Good work on special teams and an overall snap to the pace we played the game.
We'll know more of what were made of after this weekend but it was certainly encouraging.
The Coach K comment on the Kiffin Show: When Bryce Brown went out of bounds on a play, he said, "We don't go out of bounds, we punish people on the sidelines".

Berry didn't play terrible. The defense was so dominating along the line of scrimmage that he never had much opportunity to break up plays
