Lane Kiffin recognizes the gap between Florida and Tennessee and answered questions Tuesday in his press conference about how he intends to close it. It won't be easy, no matter how hard the new Tennessee staff is willing to work. Florida works pretty hard too. Does Urban Meyer strike you as a slacker? I can't even picture him with a golf club in his hands.

i'm a realist.
right now, the reality is tennessee isn't very good and florida is. that's not trash talk.
the other reality is.....kiffin opened his mouth and appears to be backtracking a tad on the eve of the beatdown he knows is coming. compliments coming out of nowhere about florida and statements about how long it will take to win at tennessee.

Yes fla is really good and has been the three previous years!! Yes i know alot of UT fans have really had faith in our team along with kiffin and the coaching staff but everyone blows that comment about singing rocky top way out of the water!! i mean seriously - he said it as a simple motivational comment intended to revive the ut fans and players after a horrible year!! Does anyone really think when he said that, that he was promising a win over the one team with the exception to bama that UT fans waant to beat?? everyone knows the talent fla has and CLK is not blind to that, he was just tryn to get everyone fired up!! Fla has owned us over the years and i wont be the first to say that Tenn has had the better teams many times and got outcoached in the 4th qtr!! last year we were our own worst enemy, any offensive production from UT last year would have handed the gators an early sec loss!! or should i say the ability to finish drives and not have unforced turnovers !! i will give the FLA GATORS their props because they are very talented and well coached!! Hell if "what ifs" where a factor we would win every game!! LOL --GO VOLS!!

Disappointed in you 99. Unlike the juvenile lopers, I thought you would have realized the rocky top deal was just "pep rally" kind of talk...Much ado about nada. Oh well...Enjoy it while you can. The worm WILL turn eventually.

i really believe after UTs loss sat and the lack of offense along with the turnovers that alot of gator fans are sorta relieved. Because just like them we blew the lil oppenents outaa the water and if we would have done the same to ucla then they might have been a lil worried!! BUT no - back to the same problems that plagued us last year, hopefully we can fix them from game to game and not have to deal with these problems every week!!
VolFanInAtl writes:
I think one thing we have going for us is our guys have been in a real fight this year and the big guys rose to the challenge in the fourth quarter.
Florida hasn't had a real fight on their hands this year yet. The down side to that argument is their experience. They have guys that have been in a dog fight before, just not this year.
UrbanCryer writes:
99, i hate to respond to lopers but you have a short term memory. At sec media days, way back in the spring, kiffin said he expected UF to go undefeated and win the NC. he also said that tebow was a great player and would probably win the heisman again. lastly, he said UT wasnt very good right now and it would take some time to get to where we want to go. if you want to take UT pep-rally material and use it for UF fodder congrats you UF fans are as dumb as we thought.

Clearly this writer did zero investigation of the gators...what a joke of an article. Oh well, he IS part of NBC News.

This team will be lucky to finish 4-8 with JCromp starting. David Reaves should have been left at USC with St. Stevie Superior! Jim Chaney and James Cregg will likely be looking for jobs on November 30th. As much as would love to see all four of them be successful at UT, I don't have any faith in their abilities to accomplish what we need here. There are far better OC's, O Line and QB coaches out there that we need to be looking at for next season. Best of luck to all four of them in their future endeavors.

It's funny how idiots like you are taking Lane Kiffin's praise of the UF team this week as him backing down or whatever. That's retarded, what he's doing is respecting a great opponent like most every coach does during game week.
All Lane was doing was trying to re-energize this program and get fans excited. All his talk was to get publicity and it worked. He admitted that himself. He said, "did you see me doing this with the Raiders? No, there was a purpose for me doing it here." He's a smart guy. Yea he may eat his words this weekend, but soo what....our young players and recruits seem to like it.
Again, obviously it worked....you seem to enjoy talking about it.

I hear what your saying gator but when you had fans give their tickets to Bama fans and Vols fans puttung brown bags over their head at home games, you can see why he might had to say a few things to get the fan base rowdy. Now I don't know if that's the proper way of doing it but he sure got my attention.
Bottom line win or lose saturday im with my Vols through thick and thin and will go to war with them any day of the year. There's only one fox hole i want to be in and thats a Volunteer.

Rebuilding is tough. For years Fulmer and crew were great recruiters. It appeared they were still recruiting well but suddenly the cupboard is...if not empty, very thin. I blame several key losses when new coaches took over other porgrams...Georgia, Alabama and Florida, plus the serious lack of dicipline that became rampant in the past few years. It's going to take time. The current staff is headed in the right direction but swimming up stream.

the comment about singing rocky top doesn't bother me. i just thought it was stupid considering where the programs were at the time he said it.
truth be told, that's not the comment that anyone associated with florida is really concerned about.
the comment that has people wanting blood is the whole "meyer cheated to get nukeese and still didn't get him" comment.
i brought up the "singing rocky top all night long" in conjunction with strange's article to show how kiffin's rhetoric has changed. i think kiffin is responsible for some people's inflated expectations and now is beginning to try to reel those expectations back in by saying "i don't know when (we will be really good)"
at this point, you have to admit the rhetoric coming from kiffin and company is different.
that's all i'm saying.
that rhetoric has changed and will continue to change as the season goes along because he is about to be served heaping portions of humble pie.

Maybe he is, maybe he isn't. Remember Ole Miss last year?? That's the great thing about college football anybody can win on any given day. Does the country expect the Vols to lose, they'd be stupid if they didn't! Analytically has David beat Goliath more than once, sure he has. The ball ain't round it so it kinda bounces funny! I pay no attention to fans who think they know the game such as yourself. I used to play college ball at Carson Newman as a linebacker and sometimes when we would run out of the opponents stadium, I would always hear young punks talking trash. This is how I view you 99Gator. Oh yeah, we have now went into your back yard and stole 4 top recruits that Meyer was pushing so hard to get. It takes time for a battle ship to turn around and this is no different.

kman29 writes:
I keep seeing these comments saying Tennessee has a chance because of what Ole Miss did last year. While I will never say that an SEC team doesnt have some chance to win a game, this comparison to Mississippi is a bit laughable because..
1. Crompton is no Snead
2. Even with UTs talented backfield, would take Dexter McCluster over any of UTs current backs in a game tomorrow.
3. Tennessee does not have a WR tandom like Mike Wallace and Shay Hodge
4. Tennessee does not have a 1st rd. left tackle in the form of a Michael Oher
5. Tennessee doesnt have a DT with the current talent of Jerry Peria.
Basically Mississippi beat Florida with a future and current first round picks on offense and a stud 1st rd. pick at DT to stop the run. You really think thats comparable to the current Tennessee team?
kman29 writes:
You pay no attention to fans like 99, yet you respond to them? Makes sense. lol! As for recruits, recruits aren't stolen until they sign in february. And if Tennessee ends up with another losing season and UF wins another national title, you really think some kids won't waver?
OldNumber7 writes:
As I said once before...some folks just can't take a tongue-in-cheek speech in context. You post some very intelligent, objective material. You know that his speech was just banter and now the media and gator fans have warped it into a cheap rallying cry - which I think is childish, uneducated, and pathetic.
johnlg00#206211 writes:
Actually, 99, he said the same thing the same night he said the other. We know which one the media picked up on, but we ALSO know from their own testimony that his talk that night was the reason why so many good recruits took notice of UT, many of them almost for the first time. Would you or I have said what CLK did? Probably not, but CLK IS a different kind of cat.
Only time will tell if it was worth all the sturm-und-drang you folks have chosen to make of it, but just how much national notice would have been taken in this year's UT-FL game without it? CBS might have its highest rating in years for this game. And if by some chance UT makes a game of it, even more potential recruits will say, "Well, dang, I guess they really DO have something going on in K'ville these days!"
If the game is a bloody rout--and the threshold for that rises with every half-baked, warmed-over "big-mouth Kiffin" story that comes out, to the point where anything less than a five or six TD margin will look like a win for US--everybody will smile smugly, but this staff will just keep working and recruiting and we Vol fans will know that this will be the LAST time we will be so ripe for the taking.
johnlg00#206211 writes:
Actually, what Celizic was saying is that since Meyer chose to use CLK's remarks as bulletin-board material, it is up to HIM to make sure HIS players don't get out of hand. It was subtle, but there were more than a few digs at Meyer for being thin-skinned and not needing much of an excuse for running it up on anybody he can.
ande1139 writes:
I think Kiffin knew he was going to get his butt whipped by FLA. the day he took the job. But he got some people talkin about the program and signed some kids that could help him immediately try to change the culture of the program.
Didn't you ever talk trash to your friends about something you knew wasn't going to happen?
Relax, I think everyone else is

Well spoken; The whole thing is a non factor blown totally out of control; He said it to fire up the fan base and his team..Nothing wrong with shaking up Meyers diva way of thinking.. Sadly though Nuke has been a non factor and doesn't have the talent for an immediate impact but time on the field will cure all that..On the other hand Teague has been solid and should have been on the field instead of Gerald when the game was on the line.
