Ask Griff: Florida wins the battle, but Vols win the war

Florida will win this battle, but Tennessee has already won the war.

Let me back up here...

First things first, these Florida Gators are so full of themselves, it's amusing.

Poor Indianavol. He still doesn't have a clue as to how a person should act and speak. His lack of a civil vocabulary is indicative of his lack of culture. He's something you can all be proud of.

Granted Allama Matthews is the line judge who called the controversial Gaffney TD catch in `00. However, he is also a Vandy grad and the same TE that had over 100yds receiving in `82 when Vandy upset the Gators.

I'm sure he would be glad to hear you and your imaginary Gaffney friend are insinuating he is a cheat.

Two years ago Mark Richt allowed his players to celebrate after a Georgia TD. It was a penalty and Georgia was hit a flag.

Meyer (even though Richt is a close personal friend) was angry and in last years 49 - 10 win over Georgia he called two time outs with less than a minute to go in order Georgia and their coach to reflect.

Kiffin rides into town and lies about Meyer being a cheat. Then he insults Pahoke, Florida. So what will Meyer do this year? Some suggestions:

10. Take quarterback Tim Tebow out after halftime and let John Brantley finish off the Vols. Let the Bull Gator (Tebow) wound the beast and then allow him to watch from the sidelines as his young apprentice practices the death roll. It's nature's way!

9. Call timeout midway through the third quarter so Tebow can take his post-game lap around Florida Field a little early.

8. Better yet. Don't even play Tebow. Just save him for Kentucky.

7. Insinuate before kickoff that Eric Berry couldn't start for Florida.

6. You know how Florida fans always sing We Are The Boys From Old Florida at the end of the third quarter. Replace that with Rocky Top.

5. Honor Phil Fulmer before kickoff.

4. Post-game chant: "All night long! All night long! All night long!" After all that's what Kiffin said he was going to do after UT wins the game.

3. Urban's post-game handshake includes this one-liner: "They should have promoted Pat Summitt."

2. Urban coaches the entire fourth quarter with his shirt off. To remind Kiffin that's what he (Kiffin said about the people in Pahoke)

1. Would Charles Woodson be willing to play the part of Mr. Two Bits?

The big difference was that Spurrier didn't start talking until he had proven could win. Kiffin hasn't won anything to speak of as a head coach at Oakland, or UT.

Did he really go for a 75 yard field goal at Oakland? ~lmao~

I know that your being a mighty Gator and me just a poor hick Vol fan that you are sooooo much smarter than me, but could you please explain to me your outrage at (in your perception at least) Young Coach Kiffin displaying the two traits that you seem to be so proud of in yourselves?
And please, not the 'He hasn't proven anything yet' trash. Because, the best I can tell, Florida hasn't proven much themselves yet in this young season.

We win under any circumstances:
1. If we win Florida will crumble.
2 We lose but keep it close and Florida will be embarresed beyond belief,
3 Florida wins by the point spread, it was supposed to happen.
4 Florida runs up the score the way they hope and Coach Meyer is exposed as the petty. vindictive a@@ that he is.
5 Regardless of any of those, Coach Kiffin continues the excellent recruiting and with in 2-3 years, we will be back in compition anyway.

I hope all of you understand that these interlopers are not really florida fans. A real florida fan wouldn't spend all day on the web site of a team they think they are about to beat by 75 points. Only the Farragut clown is honest enough to admit that he is merely a UT hater, rather than a fan of a particular school.

Oh, wow, so now there's a "BIG" difference in your eyes between Kif and stevie superior: stevie was real careful to keep his trashy mouth shut until after he made sure he could win. How gallant of him. No doubt at the time you and stevie were very conscious and ever so mindful of all those dainty little manners involved in trash talkin. Right?

So, years as OC of an awesome offense which won NC at USC count for nothing, do they? And the fact that he actually WAS an NFL head coach counts for nothing? Tell me, do you think Houston Nutt thought that Kiffin's offense taking his Razorback defense apart for 70 one year, then 50 the next, was an insignificant achievement? Remember, before you answer that, Nutt was the coach who beat you last year, correct?

Since when were you, stevie spurrier, and the florida gators appointed to determine sufficiency of credentials for trash talking coaches? If in your eyes a coach has credentials of sufficient accomplishments, THEN its OK if they trash talk? If Kiffen had won an ACC championship before coming to Tennessee then you WOULDN'T be upset at his trash talk at your florida gators? Please.

The fact is, gator, with spurrier in your background you have no place to express anger that ANY coach would say ANYTHING detrimental about the florida gators. Period.

You know, it's not like Meyer didn't do SOMETHING to make Kiffin speak up about him. Nukeese was in Knoxville on a visit, and Meyer kept calling Nukeese, butting in and trying to interfere with his visit. You sanctimonious hypocrite gators seem to have lost sight of that, neh? Even if Meyer didn't technically cheat, he was cheating the spirit of recruiting rules, and you know it. He was also being a typical gator head coach - acting like an insufferable jerk.

I don't know anything about 75 yard field goals, except that I hope Kiffin goes for one against you. And makes it. As time expires. To make the score......oh.......say.....Volunteers 52, gators 20. That'd be pretty cool, huh?

BTW, I saw on the news yesterday that a cross bow hunter bagged a 19 foot gator in some florida swamp. Only took her two arrows. An omen for you this weekend, perhaps?

F*** the florida gators and the spurrier they rode in on!!!

Go Volunteers!!

AceVentura writes:

Griff makes a great point. And think about it everyone is expecting us to lose by 50 points or whatever, but if we lose by lets say 20 then it will be considered a success in the eyes of ESPN and all those idiots. So in the end we kinda win by losing. You can def pitch that to the recruits. "look we were expected to lose by 50 according to some, to the greatest team to ever play and we kept it close. If you come to UT you'll have a chance to play in what should be a great team considering we started many freshmen." I think that's why Kiffin has been hyping the Gators all week and also trying to get a mental edge. We'll see in 24hours and 18 minutes from today.

Good article Griff. And I fully agree. The Vol defense along with some good offensive running can keep this game from being a run away for 3 quarters; but only IF we have good special teams play and 1 or less give aways. If the Vols have some take aways, well then the game gets REAL interesting. And nothing I would like to see better than that pompous Urban Meyer pacing and getting nervous over there. I just hope the Vols, and especially Jonathan Crompton, go out and have a good game for themselves...if they can do that and come out of there feeling upbeat then, as you say, the WAR is won! I love that Griff is becoming the antithesis of John Adams. Adams is such a Florida butt kisser. Griff is showing some love for the Vols, I love it. He's always got the back of the Big Orange these days.

I think the decline of Florida State and Miami in the last few seasons has a lot to do with UF's recent dominance. Fl State needs to get rid of the dinosaur at the helm and Miami is finally getting out of the doldrums again. They seem to be back on track.

The population of athletes down there is just superior to anywhere else. Tennessee just doesn't have that, we've said it a thousand times--our coaches must recruit out of state talent. There is a neverending supply of footballers down there to supply 3 elite programs. Not that they can't get out of state talent as well, I'm sure some ace Fla fan could rattle off about a dozen out of state recruits that Meyer has landed. But geographically the recruiting advantage is clearly in their favor and has been for while.

When 2 out of the big 3 Florida teams are down, it stands to reason that the other one is going to be stacked. Kiffin's strategy of getting quality recruiters and his no holds barred approach in the media is brilliant. I hope he keeps it up.
