GAINESVILLE, Fla. – So much for the beat-down. Tennessee got out of the first half trailing only 13-6.

The Vols were able to run the ball effectively enough to sustain a couple of drives and eat some clock, keeping Tim Tebow on the sideline.

Florida got points out of three of its four first-half possessions, but only one touchdown and a couple of Caleb Sturgis field goals.

The Vols kept quarterback Jonathan Crompton under tight wraps as far as throwing the ball.

They missed a golden opportunity after Eric Berry’s diving interception of a Tebow pass in the second quarter.

UT started at the Gators’ 20 and Montario Hardesty ran for a first down at the 4.

On second-and-goal, Crompton rolled right but hesitated while Gerald Jones was open in the end zone. By the time Crompton pulled the trigger Jones’ momentum had carried him out of bounds.

Tennessee got a field goal out of it, to cut Florida’s lead to 10-6.

Shortly before the half ended, freshman safety Janzen Jackson made a touchdown-saving hit on Florida receiver Brandon James in the end zone to break up a pass.

The Gators settled for their second field goal and a 13-6 lead at intermission.

Tebow’s 1-yard run was the only touchdown of the half.

Third quarter recap.

Crompton just missed a huge pickup to Gerald Jones along the right sideline.

It could have been a Tennessee touchdown, but like last week's critical overthrow against UCLA, the underthrow turned into an interception and a huge swing in momentum.

The Vols defense was able to keep the No. 1 Gators out of the end zone on the ensuing drive, but UT hasn't been able to generate much offensively to go with the stellar play on the other side of the ball. Really, it hardly had the ball during a third quarter that left the Vols down 23-6 after a late touchdown by Florida tailback Jeff Demps.

UT has the ball to start the fourth quarter, facing a second-and-11 from its own 21-yard line.

we're rushing the ball pretty solid.

good.

All tied after a good UT drive. UF apparently is as stong on their drfensive front as UT is.
Keeping it Real
Go Vols!!!

CRFVols writes:

You can't ask for a better drive. Rather have the TD....but that was a great gameplan with a great drive for confidence building. WE CAN PLAY WITH THESE FOOLS! Way to go hardesty knocking over spikes.

VolintheRockies writes:

Good looking drive!
GO VOLS!

Maybe Lundquist will avoid any Dallas references forawhile.

Just nerves...they'll come around.

VolNWA writes:

Guys, I know Fl's O is driving, but this has to be a BIG confidence to be tied with them after 1 quarter. I mean they also supposed to be way ahead by now, right?

chargervol writes:

So far, so good. 15:00 down,45:00 to go. urban personally asked and invited all of theVols and gator mutual recruits to come see this game. GO VOLS!!!!

nashvol34 writes:

Gotta hold em to just 3 again.

Gator_Hater (Inactive) writes:

It's inevitable UF will score a TD here. I just wanna see if we can return the favor.

gavol writes:

D is giving up too much ground for passing and allowing Florida to get deep into Tennessee territory. They must be afraid of giving up the big play. They are going to have to play a bit tighter or Florida is gong to score on every possession.

nashvol34 writes:

You know the national media is sweating it right now, after they've crowned floriduh the best team ever.

CRFVols writes:

I don't like our Defensive play calling through the last two games. I'm no coach...but it just looks a lil soft.

tallfry writes:

what is with all the bad officiating? did espn pick out the refs or are these refs just afraid of getting pee thrown on them? pounceys are holding so bad every play, then picking up the false start on the td? did they ever say what the flag was?

tallfry writes:

dumb bama. when you 'truck', you don't go down on the spot you were hit. watch the replay, bammer.

I am sure that every Bammer like you has a DVR so that the plays can be repeatedly explained. A DVR is not required when you know the game.

gavol writes:

Why did he cut back? That was not smart.

gavol writes:

We need to capitalize on this one!

DennisVols writes:

Crompton is playing smart. Tuck and run.

HUGE HERE! NEED TO KEEP THEM FROM SCORING!!!! HUGE ON THIS DRIVE. 5 minutes in the first half. Can't let them score going into the locker room

Gator_Hater (Inactive) writes:

Okay, 10-6 and our defense is rested. Just keep UF from scoring before halftime and we're in it!

Damn, I thought the Gators would be winning 38-0 right now with Brantley taking over.

Right, DC? DaMan? Where are the trolls?

djohnnyg writes:

Crapton is WORST red zone QB in sec history.
