The University of Tennessee soccer team had its four-match unbeaten streak end Sunday afternoon after a 1-0 loss at No. 25 West Virginia.
The Lady Vols (4-3-1) had a chance to tie the game late, but the final of a team-high three shots by sophomore midfielder Chelsea Hatcher hit the left post with 1:56 left in regulation.
"Today was a perfect test for our Southeastern Conference preparation," UT coach Angela Kelly said. "West Virginia played extremely well and deserved to win. I think it's fair to say we know the things we need to work on and tighten up before our league openers next weekend.
"I believe our non-conference schedule has tested us as I'd hoped. We've played very tough opposition from virtually every different region," Kelly said.
"The real season starts on Friday at Arkansas. That's what we're here for, SEC play and the postseason."
UT junior goalkeeper Molly Baird had a career-high 10 saves.
