Chris Walker likes Kiffin's confidence

Count Tennessee defensive end Chris Walker as one that appreciates coach Lane Kiffin’s response to Florida coach Urban Meyer on Monday.

“I love it,” Walker said. “It just shows the confidence he has in us at all times. He’s going to do that to motivate us and just motivate everybody else.”

Kiffin poked fun at Meyer, who said that the Gators were slowed on Saturday by the flu.

“We didn’t buy into that,” Walker said of Meyer’s reasoning as to why Florida only beat UT 23-13 despite being nearly a 30-point favorite. “We don’t want to hear too much of that.

“The game is over. We came out there. They gave it their best game. We gave it our best game.”

Snapping To Help: Center Cody Sullins said he will be there to help Jarrod Shaw, who has been moved from right tackle to left guard this week.

“If he gets confused on anything or has questions on anything, I’d be happy to help him out,” Sullins said. “But he seems like he’s handling it pretty well.”

One would think there could be a conflict of interest. With senior starter Vladimir Richard (knee) ruled out of Saturday’s game against Ohio, Sullins’ brother, Cory Sullins, would have been the fill-in if not for Shaw.

Neither brother expressed concern about Shaw’s move. The junior has started all three games at right tackle this season.

“I don’t look at it like it’s downplaying me … Shaw has obviously had a lot more (game) experience than me this year,” said Cory Sullins, who admitted he has had some lapses in technique. “He’s more comfortable out there. He’s a bigger guy.

“That may help us out as a team when we go against bigger SEC defensive linemen. Whatever is going to help the team, I’m for.”

Shaw played guard for UT in spring drills but has since practiced at right tackle. Kiffin said he’d prefer not to have linemen play two positions.

“We do that a little bit,” Kiffin said. “You really don’t need to in college if you have recruited the right way and have the amount of depth you need.”

Kiffin said he double trained linemen in the NFL since a team can only allocate seven or eight offensive linemen on its roster. UT is being forced to do so because of a lack of depth on the offensive line, Kiffin said.

I kinda like the confidence I see in the fan base. Haven't seen that in awhile.

Yep! If we play each Saturday with the effort and intensity we had last Saturday, we have a shot to win each remaining game on our schedule...including Alabama!

Wouldn't put a lot of faith in any answer you get on this thread. Seek professional advice.

WHY are you still talking about coach Fulmer? it's over...MOVE ON....or do you want to bring up Majors, Battle, Dickey?

It doesn't sound like Kiffin is thinking that way. I feel that he will stick with JC for several more games whether he plays well or not, but in the last 2-3 games, if JC is not playing well, he will start NS to get some experience for next year.

Gainesville, FL (AP)
Meyer has brought up a new twist on why the undermanned Vols were able
to play the defending National Champions straight up. Meyer said that
over the summer his players had bonded more than any previous team. This
bonding apparently led to their menstrual cycles "synching up". A
phenomena seen in tribes in the Middle East when the wives of a Bedouin
chief all live in the same tent. Meyer said "unfortunately for us, the
timing of the third week in September coincided with my team's
collective menstrual cycle. As you may know from your own wives, this
can led to cramps. Combine that cramping with the heat and humidity of
Florida Field, and you have a recipe for disaster. Fortunately for us,
Tim (Tebow) is man enough to push through it. We'll have to look at the
cycle next year and maybe push to change the schedule if need be.
Commissioner Slive pretty much gives us what we want"

On Monday, Kiffin said he didn't want to respond to Meyer's comment. But
asked whether he was worried about the flu also hitting Tennessee, he
said: "I don't know. I guess we'll wait and after we're not excited
about a performance, we'll tell you everybody was sick. We don't have
menstrual cycle issues at Tennessee, so that's a non-player"

"

I guess we'll wait and after we're not excited about a performance,
we'll tell you everybody was sick-but I can assure you we will not be
trotting out any menstrual (cycle) excuses.

strange. the game I watched (and watched again on replay tonight) has UT throwing at the end. Urban did say at todays press conference that his sphincter has relaxed enough that you could now find a hammer big enough to drive a red hot needle through it. He thinks he will be ok by Sat night for Ky

I'm there with ya. Crompton swing games would be Ga, SC, and maybe KY. I'm hopeful we have faced the best secondaries we will see the rest of the year.

We MUST win the turnover battles in every game, or we could be 5-7.

Well if the UF players had the flu, then with all the slobberknocking our D was handing out some of our players will surely catch it. Has anyone heard anything to that effect? (Crickets chirping) I haven't either.

I've heard a lot about the "swine flu" but this sounds a little more like the "chicken flu" which also has a terrible symptom known as "weak excuse".

LibertyVolance writes:

It is hard to criticize anything we are doing right now. I'm so pleased with the level of play, how hard an effort is being expended to regain lost respect, and the enthusiasm everyone has mentioned that I'm not going to question our QB on the field each week. If it's Crompton, I know the coaches feel that it has to be Crompton. If it's Stephens sometime after, then I have confidence knowing the coaches felt a change to Stephens was necessary..I just say "Go Vols", I'm with you, coaches, team, and Vol fans from all corners of the earth. A hearty "Go Vols" to our GIs spread across the continents, too. It's all good now.

Johnathon Crompton will be the QB for every game period.

He does not feel Stevens brings anything more to the table and he is not going to rock the recruiting boat for next yrs qb.

I predict we land another top QB that is committed to another program right now.

USC is a prime example Carroll has made it clear Barkley is his man and he continues to state he is as godd as he has ever seen.By the way Barkley is a freshman.

Have patience folks Kiffin will get what he can out of this year but he won't lose site of the future.

I hear Crompton would be an All American if we just let him wear his practice jersey in a game.

The only "flu like" systoms "Flur-Dah" had was the "East Tennessee Trots" (a bad case of the runs) from eating too many oranges from being hammered too many times by our great defense (that I am darn proud of). You know what happens when you eat too many fruits....lol. But I guess they need to make some kind of excuse huh.

@$$ and that we have and entire NFL staff. We are going to be a legendary dynasty. I also wouldnt say CLK did an aweful job at USC recruiting and coaching two Heisman winners and multiple national championships, something the Huskies, or whoever the hell that is, has no concept of.

Assuming that you are a Wawshington Husky, please don't let your win over USC permit you to post on this website concerning how our coach handles the publicity of a HIGH profile job. The fact of the matter is that Washington is now OVER-RATED and will lose more games than Tennessee this year. Face it, your coach simply knew Pete Carrol's methods well and was able to one-up him. Moreover, I will state that your Husky team WILL NOT win the Pac10 title this year, simply because Sakisian will not know his opponents as well as he knew USC.

"take a knee". Try running a hurry-up offense with Crompton. See the final drive of the UCLA game. I think there is a better chance of Hardesty/Brown breaking a big one that Crompton going 4/6 and a touchdown in a hurry-up offense. In fact, I know there is a better chance of the former.
